Which layout to choose to cover as many screens as possible?

I would recommend RelativeLayout.

The layout you should use is entirely dependent on the situation. There is no "best," or "one-size-fits-all". With that said, find myself working with RelativeLayout more often than not. It does seem to be the most versatile.
