Hello. I have the Galaxy S5. Not happy at all owning it.
It is overheating a lot and slips from my hands. I'm having difficulty to hold it.
I tried everything I could to solve overheating, asked many people, in here too but it is hopeless.
I was thinking whether to buy a brand new battery or a case that provides good grip.
I decided to go to case route because it is a much cheaper way to try and see.
Could you give your suggestions for cases that have good grip?
If you can tell me which materials provide best grip (like silicon, TPU or plastic), I'll find the specific case by myself.
I know this is some cover-up my real problem but I want to give it a shot.
    Thanks in advance.

Leather IMO. I've used clear TPU before (that had nice grip), a rubber case, and a plastic and TPU SlimArmor, and all of them has worse grip than the OEM Samsung leather case I am using now.

Thanks for the answer. I forgot leather completely. Do you remember which one among them reflect the heat least to your hands? Leather is the winner in that too for you?

I like the grippy feel of soft silicone but for heat resistance you're better off with leather. Blacksmiths wear leather aprons for a reason.

I haven't thought about that lol. Guess you are right.
Though I have been searching leather cases and yet I couldn't find a leather case without covering screen. All of them cover screen too.
I don't like it as for my personal taste. It somewhat makes harder opening the phone.
    Are they all like this?
As for soft cases or smooth ones, I always thought they are tend to be slippery than textured cases.
But this is just my opinion. What do you think?

Here's one without the flap. Personally I like a pebble finish on leather cases but grip wise they've been about the same.

Now that one is a nice case indeed. Great find.
But with the shipping, this case will probably cost more than purchasing a brand new battery for the S5.
I wonder if I can find one in my country.

Yup. I don't feel heat at all. I tried gaming and there's no heat at all on the case. There's a little bit of heat on the front of the phone butI can't feel any on the back with the case.

However, the SlimArmor case I used to have (TPU and Plastic) also did not transmit any heat that I could tell.

So I think leather case is really everything what I want. No heat=no sweat=no moist, right? Don't care about protection at all.
It will be my first choice.

Though the second one looks decent too. The SlimArmor is available in my country right now (leather one does not).
I have a Spigen case for the S5 called Ultra Fit (very slim one) and it has been made from polycarbonate.
It surely helps to reduce slipperiness, well, for some time. Then the case itself gets slippery too.
Do you think the SlimArmor would be better, considering it has been made from TPU and plastic?
And does it add bulkiness to the phone? How much weight does it have?

The SlimArmor does add bulkiness, quite a bit. Well i used it before on a Note 2 and I think the weight almost doubled.

Leather is best for sweaty palms like yours. I don't have sweaty palms even if I hold something a bit hot. Not everyone is like that. Leather is best because it absorbs a bit of moisture. However it would end up smelling if you sweat on it a lot. You may end up needing to wash it or something every now and then.

Wow. Then the SlimArmor is no good for me. I don't liketo add more weight on the phone.
I'm having difficulty using the S5 with one hand already.
This one looks to add more bulkiness AND height too. Nope, no way.
Thank you for your comment on this one.

Yes I know about smell of leathers.
I like real leather smell but I can't possibly know before buying and using if it is a high or low quality leather one, can I?
It is possible I will end up with a leather case that smell like muck :p
Hmm... What I can do about it?

I've never run into a smelly leather case. Even Ostrich Skin while getting dirty did not let off any foul odors. That was back in the early aughts though. I don't know if tanning processes have changed since then but I kind of doubt it.

How much high quality leather cases cost around approximately?
Also, is this case the same case you suggested? Do you know which company make them?

Samsung's own genuine leather case costed approximately $35. It's just a back panel though, and I have the S7 Edge.

Got it. It probably costs more because it is made by Samsung (and maybe bought from their store?) .
Like you say it is also for the S7 Edge so it can be expensive.
I will be looking for more leather cases but the one dontpanicbobby suggested is a really nice case to eyes for me.
I would be grateful if you folks can recommend more leather cases without the flap.
There aren't kind of cases in my country and I don't know where to look in the worldwide.
I can put them together and then buy the one which suits my needs.

Nice to see the thread is helping to others too. Glad you find it useful. Keep it coming people for more suggestions please!

While you are certainly right that a case is cheaper than a new battery I really feel almost obligated to say that if your phone is heating up to the point that you can't hold onto it, the REAL solution here would be to buy a new battery!! I just bought two spare batteries for my S5, one was a generic that cost me 10 Euros and a genuine Samsung battery that cost me 15 Euros. I know everything is relative, but I still don't think many people would consider that to be "big" money to spend in order to solve your problem! Good luck with what ever you do, Vin.

I appreciate all the help I get. I understand the point you made there.
True, money is something that keeps from me buying another battery but it is not everything.
I would purchase another battery in a heartbeat if I only knew it is the root of the problem.
If it isn't the solution, then I will be end up having two healthy batteries and with a phone I wouldn't care anymore.
The battery actually seems healthy. It is going up to 37 Celsius at mid load and 40 Celsius at really heavy load at 27 Celsius room temp.
The phone only shuts itself down instantly at below %1 percent, so it is a good thing.
My old phone was shutting itself down at %20 left because of the battery.
Didn't drop the battery or the phone or contact any liquid.
So because of these I can't justify myself to get a brand new battery.
Of course I don't have tremendous amount of knowledge about healthiness of batteries.
If you can point how to detect a faulty battery I can look into it.
Purchasing a leather case seems to me more logical choice right now.

Haha. Probably more than a C-note.
OK then, I am going to order the case in the link tomorrow.
I'll look into if I can find a cheaper one of the same case :p
But it will probably arrive to me like two weeks later at best. Hmm.
Maybe I can buy a battery until it arrives. Maybe it would be a win-win situation.
Or maybe it could be a lose-lose situation too...
