So I searched google for tutorials on how to root the hero, it came up with a heck of websites. I've seen some websites, youtube videos, and well, each one of them has it's own way. I don't know which to trust, and which to use.

If someone could link me to a tutorial by a trusted source, it would be very appreciated. Thanks.

It's not exactly a tutorial, but it's the one I used, and I don't know all that much about rooting etc. Definitely a trusted source though.

[GSM/CDMA] 09/11 - Installing the patched recovery image on your device - Android @ MoDaCo

I will say this though: before you do anything to your phone, do some reading and make sure you know what you're doing. :)

If you've got any questions I can try and help out though.

I rooted mine a few weeks ago, it's pretty easy once you get a little understanding of what you're doing. I can help you out if you want? What kind of Hero do you have? :)

Nope, not that I'm aware of. As long as you do it properly.

It voids your warranty, but unrooting pretty much gets rid of all traces of it, making it a rather moot point.
