But I do have a few questions about the experience.

I was under the impression that I would have the option of choosing the juopunutbear bootloader or not. It just flashed itself without any input from me. Any implications on this?

Also, I was under the impression that I would have to unlock the bootloader after running juopunutbear by entering the unlock token a second time. Is this not the case. I have SuperUser working fine, and since the bootloader says Juopunutbear, I assume there's no need to "unlock" it again.

The Hboot chnaged itself without asking whe I did it, too.

    And the bootloader stayed unlocked.

Maybe they changed it aince the tutorials were written?

Well I believe you need the J-bear hboot to actually get s-off. You can always switch back to the OG Hboot, just look through here for the list of all the Hboots.

And nope! Only needs unlock once and you're good to go.

Nope; just once-and-done. Welcome to the ability to change absolutely everything about this phone.

From what I have seen most custom ROMs require something other than boot 1.57/1.58, so you will want to install another boot, maybe Eng 1.04

Almost all roms except a few stock ones and CoolROM and ViperR284 will boot on 1.04ENG I believe...that's the one I use, and I'm using team d3rp's Lights Out rom.

I've been using the JBear 1.50.5050 hboot exclusively for the last month or so because of the reasons stated in this post and haven't had any problems with any of the ROM's I've tested. I would still install the ENG version to get the detailed hardware configuration info since that's the only hboot that offers it, but I really feel more comfortable with an hboot version that is closer to the ICS stock hboot.

The jbear 1.50.50 that ramjet73 is referencing is the Evo 3d equivalent of the jbear 1.57.57 on our phone, both are basically stock Hboots with additional fastboot commands available to us without having to re-unlock the bootloader.

The Jbear 1.58.5858 hboot for the Evo 3D is closer to the JBear 1.57.5757 hboot for the Evo V since those are both based on the bootloaders that came with the respective ICS builds and will boot the ICS stock kernel but not GB and AOSP based ROM's. The JBear 1.50.5050 hboot is from the Sprint GB 2.17.651.5 build which is why it can flash and boot the same ROM's as the ENG 1.04 and Revolutionary 1.4 hboots.

Can I ask you something its not about the hboots and stuff but after u gained s-off did the phone reboot back up into the ROM? I ask cause after I s-offed it would not boot up into a ROM it would just sit at jupobear screen. I couldnt find anybody that had that problem so I had to come up with a solution myself and it took all night. I couldn't get on here and ask 4 Help cause my phone is how I use internet.

If you still had the JuopunutBear screen that means controlbear.exe didn't complete it's processing because it should restore your phone after the wire trick is successful and then that screen won't appear. If the restore isn't successful there are two options to manually restore in the troubleshooting section of the unlimited.io website.

Did you get the prompt asking if you want to install the JBear hboot and respond to it?
