I stopped in and ordered one a little after 11. Two others had reserved one before me.

yep i ran by mine about half an hour after they opened and was the first one.
i don't think the pre order is necessary since the price is a turn off for alot of people but it's nice having the peace of mind knowing i can just drop by thursday after work and pick mine up. in a previous life i remember waiting in line at 3 am to get iPhones and i just don't wanna have to deal w/ all that without knowing for sure that im even gonna get one again

Just got back from BB getting mine (was there at about 10:30). Woo hoo! I can't wait to get off of work on Thursday to go get it.

See, now I'm jealous of you guys ;) 90 minutes from a BB and Sunday means I'm not going anyway.

I don't think I'm going to do the pre-order, I'll just take my chances on getting one once they launch. That will give me a chance to scrape up a few extra dollars. It does make me feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who is willing to spend $800 + tax + activation fee to get one. That's A LOT of money but you only live once I guess.

Thats what I'm going to do, but I see it on amazon or something, and they ship it out on the 23rd and I can get 1 day shipping, I'll do that because with the money I can save on tax I can get an accessory for it :/

But wherever I get it, If I'm not a 110% satisfied its going back lol. I'm expecting to like it and keep it though

I just got back from my preorder session, I was number 2 with 3 more happening at the same time. Got to preorder the dock and the portfolio case as well. Preorder page with a circled #2 receipt and gift card.
I guess mobile is handling preorders but the PC department will be handling the sales because it's over a 7" screen.

Oh and 2 people walked in and tried to get the wifi only one and could not preorder, just FYI.

    Now for the waiting game.
  12. Think I was the first when I arrived 15 minutes after they opened. Went to the mobile department and they sent me to the computer department. The salesperson I spoke with didn't know much and then proceeded to hype up the Dell Streak...LOL. Told me that T-Mobile is selling a ton of them. If I wanted a 7 inch tablet I would have probably gone with a Tab. Got a manager to assist and was finally taken care of. Normally I don't purchase something without seeing it first, but definitely made an exception in this case. Thursday can't arrive soon enough.

Got my pre-order in this morning. Got there about 5-10 min after store opening, and there were 2 people in line ahead of me at that point placing their pre-orders. Once I got to my turn, another BBY associate (from the computer department) walked over and asked the BBY mobile guys about the pre-ordering for Xoom, and I heard one guy respond telling her that they were doing them and that they had already done about 10 that morning already!

And as for the pre-order slips that the mobile associate had, not sure if this meant anything but after me there was only one slip left (again no idea if that indicates that's all they were going to have, but hey I got mine!). And I'm so psyched that neighboring Delaware is tax free, saving me about 50 bucks, plus a 10% coupon I have towards the dock/case, and of course I'll be calling Verizon that night to cancel service, which means a nice waive of the $35 and a waive of the $20 of the data plan. Really not as incredibly expensive as so many were making it out to be ;)

Problem with pre-orders is it locks into Best Buy. I did this on the iphone 4 and you cannot trust every Best buy store will get any even if they tell you they will. So what happens is if they don't you have to wait until they get stock or go try and hunt one down somewhere else. If can't find one at a Best Buy but find one at another retailer get stuck with Best Buy gift card you may or may not want. Inventory may not be a problem so might be moot.

Would also not surprise me if wifi version come out on the 24th and Best Buy is just doing pre-orders on the 3g version to try and lock people down on the 3g.

My strategy is to wait and see what happens on the 24th. Patience although hard has usually worked in my favor on these kinds of deals.

I'm a little worried. I just went to my local best buy and they had no idea on how to take a pre order for the xoom and after they read some paper they took my pre order.

What I'm worried about is that they didn't put my name on any list. They just took my name and number and gave me the receipt with the gift card. They told me they would call me when they had the xoom ready for pick up. I remember with the evo I had to fill out some paper and was put on some list and I was a certain number. Should I be worried or is this normal?

Does your receipt say "Xoom preorder" on it? If it does, I wouldn't worry about it. Your name and phone number is the only thing needed on the preorder form anyway.

I had preorder issues too. They gave me a giftcard and wrote on a piece of scrap-paper my name and number.

We don't need to put your name on a list anyone, once everything is scanned, you are put into the computer system and that's how we track it now :)

This is true and not at the same time. It's a gift card, and it's refundable as long as you don't use it, so if you decide to get your Xoom somewhere else, you can do that and get the money back, or just use it to purchase something else from Best Buy :)

I was first in line at my local BB, but a dummy unit would have been nice and with something this big (you can only get at BB or VZ), I would have though BB would put a little more effort. My gift receipt says Xoom Presale, but I did ask to ensure I am guaranteed one. Agreed with those above, Thursday cant get here soon enough.

I walked in 10 minutes after BBY opened at my local area and I actually was in line behind the first guy.

I have to say, the posters in these forums helped me seal the deal for the Xoom. I was interested in it but following the Release Date thread sold me for some reason.

    Now I can't wait for the 24th :D

Add me to the preorder list :)

the best buy guy did tell me about "re activation"fees, but I'm going to hope that is just BB bs to keep people from canceling as soon as they leave the store. As ck and others have pointed out, this is against normal verizon policy.

I plan on keeping the data for at least 2 months anyway for travel. Yes I have wireless tether on my droid, but if I'm paying for one month I might as well use it without killing my phone battery.
