I own an HTC Incredible S phone running Android version 2.3.3 and the only way for me to download stuff is through the Marketplace app. I would like to be able to access the official Google Play Store app....is it possible or am I screwed?

According to Google, my phone is supported and is running a high enough version. Why can't I get this app on my phone???

I realize the Marketplace is sort of the same thing but I've heard there are some apps you can't get unless you have Google Play Store installed. Help!

AFAIK The Marketplace is the old name for Google Play Store, I believe you need to upgrade to ICS before you ger Play Store, but the apps you see should be the same.

My phone runs Android 2.2 Froyo and has the Google Now looking Play Store so it should support 2.3 Gingerbread as well. Is the device rooted? If so the 'market updater' apk may have been deleted or if unrooted may never have been installed as part if the stock ROM leaving you stuck with the old Android Market.

FYI technically both markets have the same apps and your billing info as well as past purchases are still there, the difference mainly being aesthetics and that's it.

Are you sure it's only aesthetics? I'm having problems trying to make in-game purchases (ex: coins for slot/casino apps etc.).

Everytime I try to buy coins in the game it tells me that "The Market billing service is not available at this time. You can continue to use this app but you won't be able to make purchases."

I've read somewhere online that unless you migrate your outlook account into Google Apps you won't be able to make purchases. Funny thing is that I can buy apps from the Marketplace with my credit card but can't seem to make in-game purchases. What's going on???

I'm so lost and confused here.

Can someone give me a step by step guide on what I can do?

Yeah in-app purchases won't work but you should be able to find whatever 'pack' on there with a search and force it via Market. Less convenient but possible.

Sorry Nick, I don't understand what you're saying.

    Please elaborate.

What exactly do I need to do?

The old Android Market does not support in-app purchases. This means add-on content which is part of most 'freemium' games and 'premium packs' which include extra features or unlock certain content in normally free apps (in Go Weather EX for example, the premium pack unlocks more weather info and themes) will not be available for purchase within the app itself. However, most of the packs and add-ons are able to be found in the Market and most in-app purchases just redirect you to the Market/Play anyway meaning that while you may not have the convenience of being able to buy things inside the app/game, they can often be found in the market anyway so you don't have to live without.
