Why do Widgets NEVER update?

I had the exact same issue with Android 2.1

the stock NEWS widget (which I have about 4 RSS feeds on) is set to update every 4 hours, never updates until I manually update it.

the weather/time widget never updates until I click on the weather

and the weather is set to update every 1 hour...

this is very annoying and defeats the purpose of these widgets

As well as setting the update frequency, you need to set it to sync automatically.

Settings-> Accounts & Sync -> Manage accounts, News

i did that long time ago, no difference
