why do you need a screen protector?

No scratches just yet, i do have scratches on the back camera, however.

Only had mine for a week, no scratches on a naked screen yet.

Had a Hero for 6 months, never used a screen protector, zero scratches.
Dropped it on pavement 3 times, scratched the case, popped my case off, scratched the body of the phone, did absolutely nothing to the screen. Wiped screen clean with shirt all the time, doing the same with my EVO, never a scratch.

I had my Hero for 6 months also and it is scratched pretty bad. I do not abuse my phones and it was never dropped. My Evo is getting a screen protector so I don't have to worry about it.
