I have a 2gb allowance each month and Android OS consistently takes up 700mb per month. How do I stop it? It's the same amount every month.

It's not Google Services, as that takes up like 60mb, nor anything like gmail or Facebook.

I know it is showing the 'OS' as the user, but you have to understand that w/o the OS, that phone is a dead duck.... it is just the servant providing you with a connection to data.

something else is the culprit, not the OS.

go thru Settings/App/App Mgr and look at each app you have, turn OFF notifications for every one of them. You did not say what phone you are using, so this is a generic reply.

Turn OFF every app that is not absolutely needed, but leave the unnamed ones alone ( com. android)
get rid of all the social apps, Amazon, etc....

Once you have it under control, you can turn on the things you want.... but, you must leave Notifications OFF on every app you have, if you have to live with a low budget data plan.

My family has 3 smart phones and we get along on about 600 mB/month data used on our Family Plan just fine... we always use WiFi when it is available.

You should be able to dig down, and see a list of what actual apps are using the data. Which looks something like this.

Where it is, might depend on the particular phone you've got there.
