The Galaxy S2 has been out in other countries for quite sometime. Why does there seem to be such a delay getting these phones to the US?

The original Galaxy S was also released quite some time after the international Galaxy S was. Technically, the international Galaxy S2 fully supports AT&T's 4G HSPA+ network, but carrier branded versions must go through a process of approval, loading of bloatware, etc. before being launched.

The rumor mill suggests that we shall be seeing a variant release on July 24.

This is a very interesting article on your exact question. (The article also notes that the original Galaxy S was released only one month after the international version. So I'm not sure who is correct, the article or the post above this.)

The uptake on this is that the suggestion is that Samsung simply does not have the capacity to introduce a U.S. Galaxy S2, among other things.

OK I'm going to use the (original) Galaxy Tab date information in the patent office as an example to estimate the Within release date (pending all rumors and speculations etc). According to the patent office the orignal patent file date for the tab was 6/28/10 and "first use in commerce date" was 11/16/10. This was a total of 141 days. Using this gap and seeing that the Galaxy Within was filed on 3/17/11 - 141 days later puts it at 8/5/2011. So if all is going as expected (no legal issues or crap about dragging on with US carriers) then the "late July/Early August" dates should be pretty valid. Again this is just speculation. Let's hope it works out
