1. Are you ready for the Galaxy S20? Here is everything we know so far!

Why is torrent download speed on my Note 10.1 2014 edition about 1/5 of the speed of my Windows PC?

I have a 50 MBps, 802.11n Wifi connection and speed tests on the tablet indicate that torrent speed should be fast.

Is this a general limitation in the Android platform? And if so, can installing a ROM with root access and the right configuration bypass this limitation?

If you look two posts down on the threads list you'll see that I tried that first without much success. I actually doubt this question is related to the device/model. If so I would appreciate someone confirming that (i.e by saying you don't have this problem yourself) so I can treat this as an error/support issue.
I'm amazed how hard it is to find an answer to such a basic question...

Ok calm down we are here to help each other Dom was just helping with putting your post in the correct spot for more better assistance. Now when you downloading a torrent you would be better off using a PC/laptop. The reason is carrier data and multiple task a glitch can happen at anytime causing you to have half or download . now if you do this from a pc/laptop you can set up your speeds for download and upload. As I see your 80211 router speeds needs to be set to help the android device. You have just n . 802.11 a, b, g, n is the way to go. So set WiFi to 802.11 b/g/n

I noticed on my phone (Nexus 5 w/ KitKat) that when I have my Location settings on "Battery Saving" my WiFi performance is MUCH worse than either off or GPS only. Can't tell you why.

You need to check that box avoid bad or connection and set the speed to either 5ghz or auto . sounds like your WiFi advance settings aren't set up

Thanks. I've haven't tried in a while, but I have it set to connect to my 5ghz at home and the box is checked. I also haven't worried about it because the 15MHz that it gets with battery saving on is more than enough. If I need to do something taxing on the WiFi then I go to the computer, like was mentioned by you before. I may experiment again soon. If I do I'll make a new thread.

    Sorry, /threadjack

    Thanks for the replies guys.
Yes, I know a PC is optimized for these kind of processes and that's really the core of this thread. I have a 10 year old, noisy, ugly PC that I'm going to get rid of. In terms of hardware processing power my tablet blows it out of the water. Do I really have to buy a new box when I can do everything from my tablet - perhaps except getting decent torrent speeds?

I don't think this is related to battery save mode.

I'm a bit confused reading your first post BRAINZ. I have set the the torrent app to unlimited download speed.
What do you mean and how do I make these settings?

it also supports 5Ghz if that's relevant..

Thanks, the points in the last article are either very general (i.e checked) or windows-specific but the point about port settings might be relevant so I'll check that.

Still not sure what you mean by the WiFi settings after reading the article. I have only
802.11n-compatible devices in my network. Wouldn't the whole point be to set it in Greenfield mode and hence avoid legacy slowdown from 802.11b/g/n ?

The problem maybe that you only have it set to one of the 802.11 modes your tablet calls for dual mode and the 802.11ac . if its just running on the n settings the tablet is being forced to do something it can't . this freezing is interfering with the download and download speed . try to change to b/g/n and try to download again
