i can't belive that HTC took out the kickstand.that is one of my favorite features on my EVO4g.i couldn't figure out why they would do such a horrible thing until sprint said that they would be selling a case with a kickstand built in. now it makes sense to me.it's all about the money.they want to squeeze as much of it out of us as possible.you want a kickstand?? you have to buy the case. thanks again Dan Hesse . other than that, this phone is going to kick ass.

Yeah, that sucks. Limits the number of cases I can have for my phone.

With the larger battery and it being moved south to make room for the second camera, there appears to be no room for the kick stand. Maybe we can borrow one from the crApple guys? :D

Some reps from HTC said that they would have cases that would have kickstands built into them so no biggie.

The fact that theres no kickstand is beyond me. Yeah they say theres going to be cases with a kickstand but thats ridiculous. We shouldnt have to buy a damn case just for it to perform like the OG EVO. I can understand that on a business standpoint but whatever.

Seriously? Is this really that big of a deal? I never use my kickstand other than to play with it while someone is boring me to death in a conversation. The reality of the kickstand situation is rooted in a few things I'm guessing.
First, thickness and battery. The huge battery in the 3D doesn't leave much space for a kickstand inside the case. Adding one to the case would add thickness and they were trying to keep this as thin as the original EVO.
Second, docking. A big complaint on the Thunderbolt is the USB jack being on the bottom when the kickstand is out. So, you can't charge it and use the kickstand at the same time. Why did they do this? So you could dock it landscape instead of vertical. People don't watch movies when docked in vertical orientation.
Third, cases. Adding the kickstand to a case allows them to sell a marked up case. On the other side, adding a case to the original EVO made the kickstand less effective (Seidio, OtterBox, etc.). So, they figure they'd let people buy a case with one who wanted one and those that didn't can go for a much thinner experience.

I used to work for Sprint Business Tech Support and actually got a call from a cust saying he had broken off the "stylus" and wanted to exchange the phone... Maybe, by the removal of the kickstand, HTC is catering to this portion of their users?

While I was a little bummed, I will definitely be getting a case anyway. I will most likely end up getting a case with a kickstand built in. Bunches of manufacturers will be making cases with bult-in kickstands; I think that is something we can easily count on. In a way it makes things a little nicer for those who don't want any dust, dirt getting under the case. Mos cases for the OG EVO had a cutout for the built-in kickstand. Likely all cases now will be fully enclosed, which I am a supporter of. We can also )hopefully) have the kickstands be more centered. Having it on the bottom allows it to tip far more easily unless it is standing on a completely flat surface, which isn't always practical.

I'm still leaning towards keeping my EVO. I need to see more hands on with this new phone for me to pay the full price. I'm just interested to see how this case is going to be like. Who knows, I might change my tune.

As of right now, I'm in the same boat of keeping my current EVO. But I think the logical thing thing to do (for current EVO owners that love the current EVO) would be to watch all the reviews and hands-on demonstrations, prior to making a decision on an upgrade. Anything could happen from now until release. Great thing is, there's still a lot of time to think it over, but it's a great luxury to actually have the option.

Even prior to the original EVO, I was watching reviews and reading as many articles as possible, prior to deciding whether or not to buy it. At that time, I owned a Windows Mobile phone (HTC Touch Pro) and was skeptical about moving over to a non-qwerty keyboard. On top of that, I was trying to gain as much knowledge about Android OS over Windows Mobile...learning curve...pros and cons...etc. I was still on the fence, even AFTER doing the pre-order at Best Buy. But considering how many issues I was having with my Touch Pro (had to get it replaced a week before the EVO was released), I figured enough was enough and it was time to change my phone. Even though my current EVO has gotten slightly laggy (w/ all the apps I installed and using LPP), I STILL love it and am not fed up with it at all, as compared to how I was after a year owning the Touch Pro.

Some places say a "case" w/ a kickstand will be avaialble, but the article says that it's a "prototype back cover," which tells me that it's a different battery door all together. I'm hoping that, if true, the replacement battery door/cover is either on the production model or available for purchase as a separate accessory.

I don't think I ever used the kickstand on my first EVO, and I doubt I will even care. However, it was nice to show off...

I can't really find any comfort in huddling around an EVO on a kickstand to watch something when you clearly have HDMI out.

The bold part doesn't work when you're out somewhere with friends or family, all trying to watch a video on the phone that will play the video the best and has the bigger screen.

Just to give an example of that:
You're out at a birthday celebration dinner with friends or family, someone mentions, "OMG...did you see that youtube video of the girl that reporter that fell on live TV?" Majority of the people hadn't seen it yet, so everyone starts pulling out their smartphones to search for the video. You pull out the EVO, search the video on youtube, pull the kickstand out and place the phone in the middle of the table for all to watch.

I do that all the time!

lol! I suppose that's a valid point. I usually just hold my phone because none of the videos I've ever let people watch were long enough to keep their attention on such a small screen. Most of the people I know either watched for maybe 30 sec to a minute at most, and other people sort of glanced at what was being displayed for a few seconds before saying something like "cool I'll have to watch that on my computer later on"

Hahaha, what normally happens for me is, once a "youtube" video is mentioned, people look over at me and say, "Hey, can you look such and such video up on your phone...it's bigger and easier to watch than on our phones!"...ROFLMAO.

What's funny is, I always hesitate for concern that my battery will die too quickly...hahahaha, so that's one of the factors that is a pro for a potential upgrade, if it's true that the processor will help battery life (accompanied with the bigger battery).

Why no kickstand you ask ? well maybe just maybe this is not the EVO-2. I have not seen or heard anything that say the EVO 3D is the follow up to original HTC EVO 4G..imo

I'll def need to look at some more hands on. Most of them didnt really impress me too much lol. I love the 3D effect of the screens. From what I see the wallpapers dont scroll though. I could be wrong. As for the battery door/cover with the kickstand......that would be awesome!

Haha I always do that with my friends. That's why I love the kickstand so much. :D

Not having a kickstand is a big deal to me too. I use the phone as my clock so it sits on the kickstand. Plus, I watch a lot of slingbox and it sits on the kickstand then too.

I have seena few people say this now. Just curious, is it going to take HTC saying something along the lines of "this phone xyz is the absolute successor to the HTC EVO" for people to think it truly is? Just wondering.

EDIT: From Sprint's Website - " HTC EVO 3D It's not just the next generation of EVO; it's the next dimmension..."

Certainly we are all entitled to our opinions, but it sounds to me like this device was/is intended to replace the EVO 4G

I didn't notice the wallpaper not scrolling until you pointed it out...hmmm, maybe it's part of the settings now where you can enable/disable?
