    Hello

i was out yesterday and turned my wifi off to save battery life, when i tried to turn it back on it just gives me a 'error' message

i have done some googling and this seems to be a regular problem with a few android phones but no one seems to have a good fix for it

    things ive tried:

    factory reset
    reset with phone turned off
removed sd card (i think its related to a file corrupting on the sd card? not sure)

i havn't made any updates recently and at the time it was broken i was running endomondo (sports tracking app) with the gps turned on

    Welcome to the forums! :)

Which software version do you have on your handset?

A reboot normally solved that for me, if it didn't, I'd forget the WiFi info on the phone, then re enter and it would be fine.

I take it you're prompted to re enter the info again during setup or is it downloading the settings again via 3G?

it wont let me even turn wifi on
i click it, it says 'turning on' then says error

i deleted everything on my sd card a few hours ago, it still didnt fix it

strangly enough i just tried it a few minutes ago, it turned on fine, connected to my wifi as it always has done, then after 5 min it kicked me off

a quick google for 'android wifi error' shows a few pages with people having the same problem, but most of them seem to have been after an update

for reference my phone details are:

    android 2.3.3
    htc sense 2.1

    baseband version: 12.54.60.25u_26.09.04.11_m2
    kernal version 2.6.35.10-gd2564fb
    htc-kernal@and18-2 #1
    thu Jun 9 14:20:29 cst 2011
build numer: 2.50.405.2 cl87995 release keys
    software number: 2.50.405.2
    browser: webkit/533.1

edit: i just found this post
    http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/336394-wifi-not-working-error.html

which tells me it most likely is the kernal, however i didnt update it and have no idea how to change it

WiFi on HTC's initial version of Gingerbread has been pretty flakey, but the software version you have (2.50.405.2) should have sorted it? Strange.

That's the thunderbolt though (and custom kernels at that) so the issues there may differ to yours.

If you manage to connect again, can you try assigning yourself a static IP? That's been known to sort some of the WiFi problems?

I'm now getting the 'wifi error' message.
I don't know what 'kernal is but don't think that it's the reason my wifi won't work.
I took out my SD card and put it back in and my wifi worked temporarily but then returned to saying error.
    Any suggestions?
Since the last update I've had numerous problems with my Desire HD and just want rid of it now. I've gone from loving it to hating it.
    It's depressing.
