Hey....Cannot understand why this would change. It was pretty good showing 3 bars in most rooms now only shows1-2 bars most of the time and keeps disconnecting. I have read that wifi is not good on these phones but why would it go from good to bad? Our broadband connection has not changes. Thanks

Do you have the latest software update installed on your IS? The first release of Gingerbread had a wifi issue which meant that the phone dropped wifi signals that were lower than -88dbm; the latest software update fixes the issue.

    Android Version 2.3.3
    HTC Sense 2.1
    Build 2.30.405.1

I did have a small update about 4 weeks ago and to be honest it seemed to get worse then.

My dbm changes from 80 - 100 just keeping the phone still?

Why is Android and HTC versions different?

    Thanks

That's strange, my wifi performance on the same software has been excellent.
Android and HTC versions are different because HTC versions run HTC Sense; that's why updates are often delayed, as HTC need to 'skin' a new release of Android before releasing it to us :)

That's what I cannot understand, it was brilliant when I first got the phone but now its bad. The moment I check mail or browse the connection drops. There must be a reason for this to suddenly happen?

The IS released with Android 2.2, which had no wifi issues whatsoever, then it was updated to Android 2.3, which had the wifi dropping issue. The better performance you are speaking of was probably when you were on 2.2.

It's strange that you still have the wifi issue on the latest build; the only thing I can suggest is a factory data reset.

Yeah I was thinking of doing a factory reset but I have a game which cannot be backed up and restored/moved which is really annoying as I was also thinking about getting the sensation but maybe a good thing, eh.........

Sounds like it could be a router problem, have you tried restoring the router to defaults and setting it up again? It's a little time consuming but may be easier than restoring the phone in your case.

The wifi range on my new Incredible S (updated to latest) is only a few meters away from the wifi itself before it disconnects.

When im online on lets say skype with wifi i lose the connection 2.5-3 meters away, and it comes back when i move closer again.

I tested going back and forward a few times and it disconnected, connected.
I could hear, then not, then i could, then not. It was quite funny actually.

My WiFi's not too bad, but my GSM signal isn't as good as it was on my HTC Desire, I sometimes lose the signal in my house. You guys with WiFi issues, install this app and maybe it'll give you some ideas, i.e pick a better channel? http://is.gd/P2nZgF

I had same problem before and went to the HTC support office and they fixed it. Basicaly they reinstalled the 2.3.3 update.... Everything works much better now.

My advice - go to HTC and get them to fix it... only took an hour!
