wifi hotspot

So i was excited to use the new phone specifically for the wifi hotspot. I could not believe when it did not work right away that I needed to tack an extra 30 a month in order for sprint to activate the thing.

So I am wondering if there is a better way to use the phone as a wifi hotspot without haveing to eat the service charge. I seen something about a way that involved root access which I could probably do but I was hoping there was a better way or maybe going to be a better way with android 2.2?

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

aside from easytether or pdanet for tethering you will have to root in order to use wireless tether. Now comparing the cost of the hotspot to the cost of an aircard or overdrive, I rather pay the $30.00 hotspot vs the $59.99 for the overdrive.

Overdrive? Does anyone know exactly what needs to be done to root and get the wifi hotspot working?
