Root Wifi Tether Samsung Admire

I'm mildly freaked out; I never got around to rooting my mother's dinky Samsung Admire until today, and when I tried to get it to do wifi tether, it either gives me page cannot be displayed or a redirects me to a snotty MetroPCS notice that tethering is against terms and conditions.

PLEASE tell me it's possible! I'm supposed to be switching to Metro myself when I get my income tax return, and I really don't want to spend $300 on the LG Esteem when Metro has blocked tethering once and for all on their phones.

It can wifi tether pretty well. The trick is playing with it to do so, which shouldn't be hard since you have it rooted. Try the following links, very good info here.

I changed my build.prop to show wifi denied= false and set to simple IP in QPST as outlined in those links, then downloaded

wifi_tether_v3_1-beta14.apk - android-wifi-tether - WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.1-beta14 *** BETA *** - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting

I've had great results tethering with the Admire. Surprising since it's a Metro phone :D

Ok so i'm new to this rooting business. I rooted my Admire no problem with superuser. Got rid of Bloatware. Then went to tackle the WiFi tether issue. Opened build.prop in a text editor and Scrolled to the bottom of the file and changed metropcs-us
ro.tether.denied=true <-- to false.

Still get the MetroPcs block when i open the browser though. I changed the file using ROM Toolbox, it appears to have saved so i'm not really sure what went wrong.The only thing i cant figure how to do is when you say you set it to simple IP. How would i go about doing that?

Someone suggested changing my rom but i cant get my current one to backup and i feel that maybe too risky for someone of my novice. Help? suggestions? steps? echo, echo? please?! =)

I remember that. This was my fix go to build.prop change denied = true into denied = false. Then go to recovery doesn't need cwm. I did it without it.hold buttons volume down, back, and power to get to recovery. Then scroll to wipe cashe partition. Then reboot system and ur done. Go and tether.
