Help Wifi tethering unavailable HTC Magic

Hi,

Got a HTC Magic (the black one) with official froyo 2.2.1 in it, but when I went to check there is no WiFi tethering available in the menu (although, there is usb tethering).

Is there any way I could put this old phone to work as a portable hotspot? I mean, are there any apps I could download to enable the wifi tether?

I'd just prefer not to have it rooted, custom ROM, if possible...

i would like to ask u from where u purchased your device?,officially HTC Magic hasn't froyo ,is possible to have an illegal software.

no reason for it to not be legit - Voda UK had an update to Foyo:

if your phone is branded to Vodafone UK,it may be possible to had customized the software...so u should ask them only abt tethering option in your device.if your phone was sim free(HTC), undoubted u can use tethering on your device.

There are a number of apps capable of turning the phone into a portable hotspot if you root the phone. Using a custom ROM isn't necessary as far as I know.

Here are two I've tried:
- Wireless Tether for Root Users
- Barnacle Wifi Tether

Also, for the record, it is not illegal to be running a custom ROM on your phone.
