Wifi won't stay connected

Hi - I've had a MID tablet PC for a while now. I can get a connection via my virgin broadband router but it won't stay connected for more than 20 - 30 seconds. I've tried the tablet at work on an open network and same story so it sounds as though there is an issue with the tablet itself. It was refurbished when I bought it to play with as it was cheap but.... Anyone had similar issues?
