Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread hitting Samsung Galaxy Ace next week - uSwitch.com
Samsung Galaxy Ace owners on Three can look forward to a swishy OS update next week, the carrier has revealed, ironing out some pesky bugs and adding some rather welcome performance optimisations.
The network, which made Android 2.3.3 available for the budget blowers back in July revealed its plans to push out an update to the 2.3.4 version of Google’s platform in response to a Twitter enquiry from Galaxy Ace-owner Paul Jancey.
So what does that mean for users? Well, for a start it ought to nix the slow lock screen bug that has been affecting some owners, as well as issues with the screen back light and random freezes.
Alas, because the Ace doesn’t pack a front-facing secondary snapper, the update won’t add the video chat via Google Talk functionality that 2.3.4 brings to higher-end handsets. However, there’s every chance it could bring voice chat via the app to Sammy’s kit.
In keeping with Three’s 2.3.3 update for the Ace, the forthcoming platform bump is likely to be available both from Samsung’s proprietary download solution, Kies, as well as over the air.
I guess he was actually talking about android 2.4, real 2.4 (ice cream sandwich), not 2.3.4.
ICS is 4.0
love how they used my tweet and actually put my name up! (the PJ in PJ147 stands for Paul Jauncey!) lol
yes 2.4 is an aka to ice cream but since its not gonna be available for the ace through kies for a looooooong time i would have actualy thought he meant 2.3.4
Is the new update available in Europe?
If Samsung releases an update, it will surely be available in Europe.
