I'm new to all this so if I'm using the wrong terms forgive me, but I was curious. Will it be possible to use the Nexus S Rom (I think is right term) to get vanilla Andriod and google updates from google instead of Verizon?

unless we get a verizon specific version...then most likely no...there are too many differences in the radios.

however people smarter than me believe they can build gingerbread for the fascinate once froyo is out or leaked...as they need new radio files....sounds encouraging to me :)

I've always been curious about this, you said that unless we get a VZW specific version, I heard that they just ported it to the Eris. How come they can do that without the correct radio?

the issue with our phones are a few...mainly the radio (ril) problems that prevent data/phone when booting aosp...and the lack of a .32 kernel (actually birdman may have built this i forget)

the eris has froyo but on a 2.1 kernel...so its froyo...but not the full package i believe
