NAACP have said that under every president, except for Clinton, maybe! It's called male chauvinism, nothing new!

TBH, I would say I'm better off during Obama term, so far, then Bush 8 years.

If you're trying to blame a condition that was caused by the actions of Bush, Cheney and the NeoCons on President Obama, I will point out how fallacious it is. So is changing the subject.

The point remains that President (and former US senator, and former Illinois state senator, and Constitutional scholar etc. etc. etc.) Barack Obama did not get elected just because he was black.

If being black was all it took, then Shirley Chisholm would have been our first black President and our first woman President.

He did not get elected just because he was black. And the employment rate is not declining. The debt is a problem. More could be done about that if congress could work together instead of being against whatever the other party is for, just because they're for it. This isn't something that is specific to one party unfortunately, but the republicans seem to be especially good at it. Particularly lately.

The hatred and bitterness toward Obama is staggering. Considering we've had far worse presidents that garnered less hatred. But to listen to some people out there, you'd think he was the devil himself. Actually there are people who literally claim he's a terrorist, and the Antichrist, just to name a couple. But I digress. Reason usually prevails, and I believe he certainly won't be the last black president. We'll probably have a black republican president soon too, as someone else pointed out.

You're asking, what did Obama achieve?

Apart from turning around the economy, extracting the country from two disasterous (Republican) wars, winning a war in Libya, taking down the world's most wanted man, dragging US health care kicking and screaming into the mid-20th century (only 60 years out), restoring US prestige and power from the absolute nadir of the Bush years and standing up to a Repulican party that tried it's level best to destroy the US just to stop him getting re-elected?

    Not much, I guess.

    You're a Fox 'News' viewer, right ..?

WOW, really? Obama turned the economy around? Golly, I guess I stand corrected. Due tell, how did he turn the economy around? Us Fox viewers are really dying to know what he did specifically. I'll give you some extra time to Google your answer.

Before you praise King Obama's health care, you might want to wait and see exactly what this means. You HC supporters think it is grand and great, but this only proves you know nothing about the ramifications of Obamacare.

I think before you castigate us Republicans you find a few facts. Do you have examples--specific examples--of what EXACTLY Obama has actually done?
  8. SiempreTuna

Lets just take a quick look at a few facts: before Obama got in, the economy was contracting, now it's growing; unemployment was growing, now it's shrinking; the Dow was down, now it's up; house prices were falling, now they're rising ..

Basically, on every measure, the economy has turned around.

Despite the best efforts of the Republicans. They want to cut, cut, cut. Exactly what the right wing has done in the UK where, as a direct result, we are now in our THIRD recession since 2007. And that defiicit they claim they're trying to drive down? It has GROWN.

Which obviously, it would: if your problem is not enough spending in the economy, how is cutting spending - and consequently, tax revenues - going to help? Answer: it doesn't. It makes things worse. It did in the 1930s, it does in the 2010s.

Obamacare is a Republican policy. It was first proposed by Republicans. It was first implemented by the last Republican presidential candidate - and was the most successful thing he ever did.

Here's an hilarious thing, there's a video of a Tea Party meeting where everyone is screaming their opposition to support Government health care. Then they're asked how many of them on Medicaid and about two thirds of the hands go up.

    Wow! Really?

Did you actually read the post you're responding to? All it contains is a list verifiable and undisputed facts:

    The US economy is growing.
The US is out of Iraq and getting out Afganistan.
Gaddafi is dead and Libya free.
    Bin Laden is dead.
The US finally has some almost sensible health care provision.
The US has restored some the prestige it lost under Bush.

There's nothing there even you can deny.

On pretty much any measure, Obama is one of the most successful presidents you've had since Lyndon B. Johnson.

That seems like a very racist/prejudiced comment to me.

From what I gather race has nothing to do with eligibility, but as it suggests, its the income of the household, most probably the parents.

    What's wrong with that?

Or is it only the rich that are entitled to an education, the chance to change their life and make something more of it. Are the poor always supposed to be poor?

After all if the poor start to become educated and make money, this means less money and fewer jobs for the rich! And that obviously isn't fair!

Ignorance. Your post sounds incredibly racist. Pell Grants are given to anyone and everyone with a qualifying income.

The one and only point you contest, and you are factually, MISERABLY wrong. Try again.

Maybe we should compare Obama's record to a Replican president's? How about the most recent one? His record was great, he:

    - failed to prevent 9/11
    - started and lost a war in Afganistan
    - illegally started and lost a war in Iraq
    - failed to capture or kill the world's leading terrorist
    - destroyed US prestige in the world
    - destroyed the US economy
    - destroyed the global economy
    - turned history's largest goverment surplus into history's largest deficit
    - ignored or exacerbated real problems like global warming

    .. should I go on ..?

In theory that's how it is supposed to work. However, that's not how it works in real life. In both colleges I've attended, I've seen the minorities getting pell grants while the non-minoraties didn't. Following your logic, ibwould have gotten financial aid, but I didn't. Funny thing, when I went to school in Maryland, there was a black guy bragging about all of the money his dad brings in as a lawyer and he still got financial aid. I suggest you at least know what you're talking about when you speak...

Racist? Anytime a White person speaks out against obama, it's considered racist. Read my above statement, I am not wrong! I suggest you see how things happen in the real world, not how they're supposed to happen. Shall I contest his claim of helping veterans? As a commissioned officer I can tell you that is NOT the case! Oh well, as long as we have a democrat in office, they can do no wrong.

Pell Grants are available to low income individuals based on income. Race has nothing to do with. But I believe the school decides who qualify and request the funds.

    Pell Grant Eligibility

Who May Apply: (by category) Individuals

Who May Apply: (specifically) Undergraduate and vocational students enrolled or accepted for enrollment in participating schools may apply.

Pell Grants are awarded usually only to students who have not earned a bachelor's or a professional degree.

To be eligible for a Pell grant, you must also meet the general federal student aid eligibility requirements.

Sounds to me like you should have complained to the school.

You may not be racist, but a lot of the people who object to Obama are. When people repeat assertions the racists make, it's an easy mistake for people to make. That's definitely not to say that they're right.

Nope. But are you going to put the blame for refusing the financing on the Republican congress where it belongs?

They do plenty that's wrong. The drone war, Gitmo, phone tapping etc. There's a long list. Thing is, these tend not to be the things Republicans object to .. largely because they're policies they initiated.

Yes, you ARE wrong. I never said you were racist simply because you speak against Obama. You said only minorities get Pell Grants, but they are for low income people. So it sounds like you are saying minorities are the low income people. I know how things happen in the real world, unlike you I guess. I myself was granted a Pell Grant for school, and I'm not a minority.

On a different subject: For the record, this hatred that many have for Obama comes from somewhere. I wouldn't assume someone was racist just because they disagree with the policies of a black man. But the extreme level of searing HATRED that is shown for him is born of a different place than mere disagreement. People calling him a muslim from Kenya, something that is positively untrue, or claiming he's the Antichrist, something that is laughably ridiculous... I can't prove that comes from racism, but I sure as hell can't imagine where else it comes from. Certainly no place logical and sensible.

Who Are Pell Grant Recipients? | Inside Higher Ed

1999 - 2000, whites received the majority of the PELL Grants if the above is true. It must be because it was on the internet.

I think says something different. I did not read it, just posting random facts to fill white space. We call it 'padding.' You read it and tell me. Smiley.

Here is an idea . . before posting mostly blacks or whites or greens recieve more or less Pell cash, how about a little research first? Bob does not know either way.

No, no: the GOP have definitively proved that unsupported assertion (i.e. making sh*t up) is way more efficient.

Not only does Sh*t You Make Up support your irrational biases absolutely, it also costs you nothing to create but costs those irritating sensible people - the ones who think facts matter more than BS - a lot of time to disprove.

jerofld Fixing stuff is not easy

Please stop asserting that it is only the GOP that is the fault of everything. Democrats are equally to blame for making stuff up that you are laying at the GOP's feet.

So I did a simple google search, and I found:

PolitiFact | Statements we say are False

That provides a mix of democrats and republicans. Mostly of during the past presidential race.

Here's another story utilizing politifact: Fact Checking ABC's This Week: Most 'False' Statements Uttered by Democrats | Media Research Center It describes how democrats are increasingly making false statements about republicans.

This one contradicts the previous one, but is several months older: Study: Fact-checkers find Romney/GOP lie twice as much as Democrats - AMERICAblog

So the conclusion that I am drawing from this is that both parties are quite capable of lying whenever it suits their political needs and that we should be equally distrustful of both in order to try to find the truth of the matter.

    Somebody doesn't watch the news.

But you know we MUST blame the Republicans, since that's who obama says to blame. The Democrats must learn to take responsibility for their actions and not just pass blame.

Now that it's looking more and more like Jeb will run, that's a good reminder for why we should think twice (and thrice) about giving another Bush a shot at our nation. It's also important because it's based 100% on issues, and 0% on race. ;)
  25. Speed Daemon

If it's true, then prove it.

That may or may not be true. The fact that you chose exclusively from known right-wing websites (e.g. choosing right-leaning Politifact over the more neutral Factcheck.org) for your citations indicates that you aren't working very hard to find any real truth. No, the "everybody's doing it" excuse only works if it's actually true. And that post falls way short of doing so.

Let's look at it from a different perspective, shall we? The GOP has professional liars like Karl Rove and Frank Luntz, who spend of all their GOP-paid time making up deliberate falsehoods for the GOP. Why do we not have similar positions in the Democratic Party?

Nobody is 100% truthful; that's part of being human. But when we do in fact have one (and only one) political party that has institutionalized lying as a strategy, no, it is not accurate or fair to say that any other political party acts "equally". Why? Because it's simply not true.
