Do you think the first batch of E3Ds will sell out? Do you think anyone who HASN'T pre-ordered will be SOL?

I don't remember the first Evo 4G selling out the first day, but it did sell out very quickly IIRC. I'm probably wrong on this though since I was with Verizon at the time and didn't pay much attention.

I dont think it will sell as fast, on launch day in middle gerogia there were only 3 evos sold that were not preordered, so im guessing it will be based on the amt delivered

i have a feeling that when national ads begin to run, the word will start to spread and a lot of people will buy it based on the 3D aspect more-so than the Jacked up specs that everyone on here is drooling over.

I think sprint will end up giving all the stores a low stock just so they can say it sold out and draw in more customers

Come on, how can you judge based on your experience? I am also in georgia and the sprint store that I was at(morrow,ga) I got there at 6am and was #7 in line. By the time the store opened at 7am, there had to be 50 people standing in line which at that point was wrapped around the building and most of these people I would not consider geeks. Also these weren't pre-orders since sprint didn't do that last year.

Inb4 sold out everywhere. Just watch. The EVO attracted customers because it had a huge screen and great specs at the time. I feel the average consumer would buy this phone for the 3D. They've grown accustomed to having a large display coming with it. Once word gets out, this thing is going to be harder to get than the EVO was.

I also think they'll be available for a few weeks and then once word gets out they'll be off the shelves for months just like the evo was... Even after the evo was out for 6 months you had to get lucky to find one sitting on the shelf around here.

I think the lack of a full upgrade from the evo is going to hurt it, but it should attract enough new customers that it will sell well.

I agree. The BestBuy in Phoenix I frequent got 50 EVO 4G's a week after launch. It was next to impossible to get one in most of Phoenix for at least a couple months (and Phx does not even have 4G yet). I got my EVO 4G 3 weeks after launch, and its only cuz i was in the right place at the right time.. I got lucky.

I dont think the EVO3D will be quite the same, but I would bet it will be hard to get for at least the first few weeks after launch.

It all depends on what you mean by sell out. There will be a point where stock is low. Maybe after the first 2-3 weeks.

I bet there are plenty to go around this time.
There may be outs here and there but sprint will have stock to replenish.

Sprint and retailers learned their lesson from last year.
Lots of Evo owners are happy with what they have.
    Much more competition this year.

Dont get me wrong, i think they will sell, there is not as much hype as with the evo that i have seen. 3d is nice, but i want an evo with a dual core processor and 1gb ram, thats what im excited about. and p.s. who cares about the green hornet. it was terrible in 2d

To the average user here on the forums 3D may not matter much in our choice, BUT like others have mentioned I'm ASSuming the "3D" buzz will draw the masses to the E3D.

When I talk to anyone who has recently bought a new smartphone, 99% of the time they comment on things like beautiful screens, size, shape, feel, etc. Never have I heard anyone say, "I bought my Evo for it's 1ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon."

    LOL

Again, users here on the forums are DIFFERENT! We're niggling over 748MB vs 1GB of RAM, Adrenos vs PowerVR, how many FPS will 1080p record in, etc.

extremely well put. My buddy recently bought a Droid X, and i asked him why he didn't go for the the X2 or the Thunderbolt, and he simply said, because this one was cheaper and just as good.

he is a very basic user who doesn't ever read specs, and uses his phone for facebook, text, calling, web surfing, and games. So big power under the hood isn't a major concern to him and it was whatever was less expensive (even though he could afford the newer ones), and the one that suited his needs.

The average users are not looking at dual core processors, 1 gb of RAM, 32 gb of external storage, & a non-encrypted bootloader and drooling. They are looking at 3D capabilities, HTC Sense 3.0 (i am too ), and the nice pretty display and drooling.

I have another buddy who drools over anything with the eaten apple on the back of the device and HAS to buy it on or as near to release day as possible. He loves to tout how awesome and revolutionary his gear is. All he talked about for 2 months was how cool his iPhone 4 was and how it demolished all other droids, now that it is getting older he finally decided to jailbreak it and now that it has customizable backgrounds it is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

It just depends on what you are looking for in a phone. If you want to just use it for day to day stuff then a cheaper year old model will do, if you love everything Steve puts out then great, if you love HorsePower and customizable ROM's and uber super control than HTC is where you wanna be.

I for one love he Sense 3.0 and love having the option of getting a custom ROM if i ever want it. HTC is a great choice for me. But the 3D is certainly not what sold me on the phone.

But i do think if Sprint does a nice ad campaign based around the phone and not on the network it will sell really really well, and transition nicely into the flagship position.

I honestly think that supply and demand issues are more visible and you usually hear about them if there was a supply issue. I guarantee there will more than enough for everyone to order. They haven't been sitting around for the last few months just have supply issues. This is the same thing that poeple wondered about thunderbolt, yet it was always instock everywhere I saw.
Getting you to preorder is a marketing trick, not because they wont have them in stock. HTC has multiple phones, its not apple who's fan boys all jump on the bandwagon at the same time, because they wont see another iphone for another year.

When evo came out it was really a good phone for the time, now there are way too many phones that many people will think are just as good. Lots of my friends bought evo because that was like the only good phone sprint had and was one of the first HTC high end phones and it was advertised like crazy. i haven't seen any evo 3d advertisements on TV yet. I think sprint learned a lesson you would most likely see them once the phone is available.

I still dont think you would have a hard time finding one. When the Thunderbolt launched my local best buy had over a 100 in stock on launch day.

Eh. The 4g NEVER sold out in my town. There were always at least 3 or 4 stores that I could pick one up at any time.

So not even the 4g never TRULY sold out (I had mine replaced for light leakage when everyone was freaking out because they were "sold out"... the sprint store gave me my pick of 7 or 8 of them). So my vote goes to the "not gonna happen" crowd.

All depends on the reviews I say. The first Evo got a 9 on Engadget, the first Android phone to do so I think. With awesome reviews from every reviewer, it was the phone to get.

If the 3vo gets awesome reviews just like the original Evo did, then we'll probably see the same thing. Otherwise, it might not sell out, especially since I haven't seen Sprint or HTC advertise it much.

The Evo release was a zoo. All stock was spoken for till 3 months after release in my area.

I think the Evo3D will sell out, but the wait wont be as bad. Sprint and HTC will be better at stocking inventory this time around.

I pre-ordered my Evo 4G at a Best Buy that is right next to Sprint's world headquarters. They got 150 phones on launch day. I was 120-something so I got a phone.

I went into this same Best Buy yesterday and pre-ordered the Evo 3D. There were only 6 people on the list. I didn't believe it, I asked them to confirm I was really only the 7th person on the list and they did. For a phone that is coming out in two weeks, that's pretty light demand.

This phone is *not* going to see the crazed rush that the original phone had. This is mostly because there are currently a lot of great smartphones (Nexus S 4G, for my money, the best Android device as of today) there for Sprint. Back when the original Evo came out, the existing alternatives were garbage (Palm Pre anyone?)

I asked the Best Buy guy about first day availability and he told me that they are not the least bit concerned about supplying all pre-orders on launch day. He said Sprint, unlike the other carriers, do an excellent job of supplying them with new phones.

I think the only way it sells out is if the stock is low. The sales wont be as high as the Evo mainly because 1) People are still in contracts from the first one 2) Many more super phone options out now than last year. Im sure itll sell well but if stores only get 10 a piece like some of em did for the initial Evo launch then yea, they probably will sell out.

The EVO 4G was a complete game changer. It was the biggest/baddest phone out there plus the 4G capabilities that nobody had at the time. People were dumping their service with other providers to get it.

The EVO 3D, while an impressive phone, does not have the same impact on the market. Other carriers now have comperable phones to the EVO 4G with some being better.

So you wont see the demand for this phone like we did for the EVO 4G.

3D is not that big of a deal to many. I like to stay on top of technology....but 3D still seems like a trend to me that will not pick up much steam. I think it is a 'technology' that is being pushed on us by manufacturers in hopes of increasing sales. When it comes to TVs, there really haven't been much improvement since LED. Things are just the same. No game changers.

Apple didn't announce or release an iPhone for June on AT&T. Those customers contracts are up and they are pissed and whinning about not having a new iPhone like people were crying on this forum about the EVO 3D. Sprint will steal a lot of customers from AT&T for contract reasons and because people on AT&T will love the EVO 3D.

I have found the Sprint coverage maps here in Austin, Tx much more accurate than AT&T. Like any coverage map they are are estimates but my sprint coverage and my friend's 4G coverage have been eerily accurate.

I don't see this happening on release day unless Sprint starts a major ad campaign within a week or so of release. I would expect this to happen only after reviews, ads, and first hand experiences are being shared. Also when Facebook/Twitter gets hit with people taking pictures in 3D and uploading them. Then I could see Sprint start pulling AT&T iPhone users.

When you see someone else with an EVO, nine times out of ten you speak to that person. Even on flights people ask me about my EVO. Now people will ask is that an EVO and I will say no its the new EVO 3D and the phone will sell itself.
