Will turning off sense make a difference?

Just a quick question.

Since Sense is extra drag on the phone, and the Evo has some reported lag issues, I was wondering if turning Sense off will make a difference as far as speed and battery life.

I know that the ability to turn Sense off without rooting the phone exists on the Evo, but from what I've heard that feature doesn't actually turn it off, but only hides it.

Can someone in the know, or who already received their Evo clarify any benefits recieved from turning off Sense? Aesthetics aside.

Without root, you can only switch to another Homescreen/Launcher. Far from "turning off sense".
