Does anyone know of there is a windshield mount made specifically for the captivate for use with GPS? I don't like the generic ones.

Also I am going to get the seidio innocase and wondered if anyone knows if the will make one. If not I will probably order and extra belt clip and make one myself.

I just ordered this one yesterday and haven't received it yet, but it looks like it has good adjustability. Cost is right at $19.95 plus shipping. I don't think the Samsung OEM mount will be coming out antime soon.

    mGrip Macally Peripherals

    Update 10/12/2010:

I received the mGrip from Macally Peripherals today. It's a nice unit that comes with 2 sets of phone grips to adjust the phone seating in the mount. Everything looks very well built. Quite a bargain at $19.95. It's a good as the BURY Comfort Cradle that I used to use for my BlackBerries, and that unit costs $69.99.

Those are both nice, gary and toad, do they hold the Captivate securely? I like the combo purchase with the usb charger. I want to get another one for the truck.

Check it out. If you read the thread, there are also videos in which he shakes the mount + phone. If you read the whooooole thread, you'll see that I did this as well, & it works perfectly w/the phone in an Amzer argyle case ;)

    Can't beat it for $4...

You can also go the custom route and have a dash mount specific for your car and a quality slide-in adjustable holder that will be of use for many phones to come. Here's a thread I posted for my encased Evo in the ProClip adjustable holder. And of course I'm a little biased, but I was always about things looking as clean and OEM as possible while avoiding sticking things on the windshield or top of the dash.

I have a Proclip for my Garmin iQue, it's a great mount. I wonder if they'll come out with one for the Captivate?

Anyone know if this will work with the Sedio Innocase II?

no, it won't. You have to go to the adjustable holder like I posted with my Evo. The specific holders are for bare phones only. The adjustable is actually like a fixed holder but split in half with slots in the back to adjust for width. You loosen it up, put your phone in, and give a gentle squeeze. Then tighten the thumbscrews and you have a fixed mount. Sell your Captivate and move to a different phone, loosen the thumbscrews and repeat.

If you can't tell from my sig, I'm a proclip reseller.

The ProClip system looks awesome, don't get me wrong, but I just can't see spending $73.50 to have my phone mounted in my car. Yeesh.

That's why you come to me for a discount. But there are many that don't like appendages sticking out of their windshield or the top of their dash; want a more integrated look to their setup. And going with the adjustable, you'll have a setup that will last through quite a few phones. Also look at how any people hop on here every time for something generic with less than optimal placement. I'd rather buy quality once.

And I can do an adjustable holder setup for under $70 shipped. As long as you're not in CT, IL, WI or TX since they charge sales tax.

I just don't like ones that seat the phone so deep. Those iphone generic clip ons people have used with the evo seem like a better idea on the generic side. Think Kensington makes them.

I have the angled mount for my Lexus ES300, and I have the Innocase II, so I would need the adjustable unit. I take it that is generic.I'm going to see if I can find that on your web site. Will that work on the Lexus angled mount?

One concern I have is that the poor GPS unit in the Captivate needs a clear view through the windshield. I think I would achieve that with this, but am not sure.

There's nothing "generic" about that adjustable :) It's item # 875214A. And it'll easily attach to the Lexus mount. All proclip products use the standard AMPS mounting configuration which is essentially just a basic 4-hole configuration many of the mfg's adhere to. You can use ProClip cradles with dash mounts from bracketron, panavise, Pro-Fit and Kuda.

In regards to the gps performance. I would imagine the froyo update will improve the Captivate's gps performance. My Epic does just fine with an angled mount in MDX that isn't underneath the windshield, though I believe I have a different gps chip that is for the most part, fixed.

for a dash mount and a holder, cost is quite a bit over $20. If you're using a case on the phone and go with the adjustable, there is some solace of being able to use it on future phones where you're not dropping another $20 with each phone.

Thanks but I'm hooked to this phone for 2 years anyway. I like your design the best but compared to the mGrip selling for 15 bucks on Amazon, I cant even remotely justify your costs. I will say if your company reconsidered and priced it competitively, you'd make up the margins in volume not to mention the attention you'd receive for all your product lines.

Compared to a retail store, you are not that out of line. But most consumers are becoming much more price savvy via online searches and that's where you need to be competitive. (The top selling price point for any online purchases - of any kind - is $19.99. But thanks anyway.

well you're comparing different needs....the custom car and phone specific mounts and holders are far from $20. If you're fine with vent mounts, bean bags or adhesive mounts, sure you can go the cheap route. Some want a cleaner, more OEM look. Some don't care. Some can create a clean look going a cheaper route. My Acura doesn't even have good proclip mounting options. I have a panavise to the right of my radio for my Sirius Stiletto and a Pro-Fit adhesive tilt swivel mount on the left side of the center dash with a ProClip adjustable. It looks very clean and does the job. But the Pro-Fit mount was still $24 on it's own, yet I'm on my 2nd phone with the adjustable. It's varied enough that I will be able to fit any phone with a 3.5 to 4.3" screen regardless whether it's a slider or a slate. 90% of the universal holders out there are ratchet grip style and you have to lock in and release all the time. If not it's some deep snap in type like the bracketron that is cheap and the deep hold isn't user friendly.

Locked in for two years, if you can find a solution that mounts where you want it, doesn't junk up the dash and is convenient, I say go for it.

I have a cheap mount like the arkon. the mechanism for locking rotation died right away and it just spun until I superglued it in one position. I have seen the proclips and they are a solid, much better made product.
