Wireless Question

I have my home wireless set up with WEP and it automatically connects. However, when I get to a place with open wireless how do I connect to it? The SSID does not show up so even if I go to add a new wireless connection it asks for the SSID and I have no way of knowing. Am I missing something very simple?

Never mind, I guess all I needed to do was ask. All of a sudden all the wireless in the neighborhood are showing up. All I did was shut the phone off, put in a nice, shiny new 16GB Class 6 Micro SD card and voila. Oh yeah, btw, the phone seems much, much faster with the new card. But that could be my imagination and/or wishful thinking.
