Wireless will NOT Turn On?

My phone until today worked fine, however, now the Wi-Fi on my GTi9300 will not Turn on. When I try to do this via settings the message I get says "Turning on...." and will not go further. I have tried removing the battery and switching on again, and this makes no difference to the message I get. How can I resolve this issue, as the wireless mode is what I use 99% of the time??

There are two possibilities, neither of which can be diagnosed here. Either the wifi radio firmware got corrupted or the wifi hardware went bad. Your best bet is to take it to Samsung (they have people in Best Buy stores - ask the guy at the door where they are in that store) and ask if they can check it out for you.
