I'm going to see it next week but what surprises me is it takes place during WWI. I've only read a couple of WW comic books back in the 60's. Is she immortal?

I always thought Wonder Woman was set in the late 1970s, i.e. contemporary to when the TV series was made. Never read the comics it was based on.

When the 70s tv show came out, it was first set in WWII. Then when ratings started to slip, they changed the setting to the present day (at the time) 1970s to try and boost the ratings but it didn't work.

I never read the comics either.

DC have rebooted their universe so many times in the last 20 years, that at this point it's impossible for me to keep up. A wonder woman was certainly around in ww2 punching nazis along side a Superman and a flash... But how continuity ties them to these contemporary characters I have no idea anymore....

Batman has been around since the 30s, though they tend to gloss over that. ;)

Actually very few comic book characters live in real time (I can only think of a couple of long-running characters who did/do). I've also never read WW comics, but have always assumed that the character is a demi-godess or something like that rather than a human, which would mean that like Superman (alien), Thor (god) or Wolverine (super-duper healing) you can explicitly ignore age rather than just not talk about it and hope nobody notices (almost everyone else).

Putting her in a movie set decades before her other appearances does make it explicit in her case.

I believe Zeus is her father... or something like that.

Demi-godess is correct! Immortal from her time of creation. I just wonder when she was created?

    Back to the movie...
An incredible number of good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

    The DCU is to dark...

Superman works in the light of day but ever since the Dark Knight the DCU remained dark.

I'm hoping WW will return color to this particular universe. Harley Quinn had many comics in the light of day but the movie played at night.

I just hope WW will "Let the Sunshine In".

I don't want everything dark, I don't want everything brooding...

.... on the other hand I don't want Stupid and Campy either.

I want Fun - "Let the Sunshine In". is a good way to put it.

Nice and bright for the first half of the film then the color palette gets darker and darker as the movie progresses. I was almost like a visual representation of Wonder Woman's mood throughout the film.

I personally loved it. My 32 year old cousin like the first part but thought the second third was slow and the 3rd part was hokey. He would only give it 2 out of four stars. I on the other hand would give it a solid 3 out of 4. I'm really, really tired of the washed out look.

Does it also have that 'shaky cam' style, which really bugs me.

I watched it yesterday w/my wife and son. Great action. They gave WW the right backstory to set her up for Justice League. The WWI change was fine. Gal Gadot now has the DC Universe on her shoulders. She should become a star. Chris Pine was good, too. Some funny moments as well. Can't wait for Justice League. The previous DC movies were not as good as WW.

No shaky-cam that I recall. The action sequences were very well shot without the tons of quick edits that are worse than shaky-cam to me. Blair Witch Project this is not.

A masterpiece of a film. It succeeds on so many levels, it's a great war flick (the costumes and set pieces are simply immersive) it's a great heroic epic (the introduction of - origin story of Wonder Woman) and hidden in there is also a coming of age love story. It's really amazing and really a well made film. If you haven't yet, go see it for goodness sake. If nothing else the way Gadot plays the role is amazing, her range of emotions is masterful. She sells the awe struck innocence of her youth spent in paradise away from the evils of mankind. 4.99 stars out of 5.

I just cannot get over the darkness. I'd update to 4.5 just for the fathfulness to her ideals regardless of the times. My remembrance of WW from comic books was she fought in the light of day.

That being said i had NO idea she was protecting Boston MA in the comics after the TV show.

May go and see it if I got nothing else to do. Cinema is only five minutes from where I live.

    Even if you don't.

It is an all around great movie. A coming of age story, a war story...

    And...

    Gal Gadot... that is all.

She's just the latest of a long history of movie starlets in comic book movies.

That Australian chick carried Suicide Squad on her back.

Watching the real Haley Barry made Catwoman a hit.

And the best part of Batman and Robin was a woman.

Holy shite! Batman... DC makes chick flicks!

Have to disagree... Suicide squad was ok for what it was, but Will SMith did a much better job.

    Catwoman was a disaster

And not even touching Batman and Robin...

Wonder Woman was a great movie, which sets it WAY above the ones you mentioned :)
