I have several friends that are literally addicted to this piece.

And I think I found out why, WOW satisfies all of your life's needs without actually living, you get the feeling of accomplishment, community and self improvement without actually doing anything.

I have asked everyone why they like WOW so much and I get the same answer: Because its fun.

When asked why its fun most say its because they get new items on a regular basis, it seems pretty shallow however as I have noticed all the items received are essentially the same as the last with higher numeric values.

    Do you play wow?
    Whats the appeal for you?

    1Q: No, I don't play it.
2Q: Like any other game, the people in it. Doesn't really matter what addiction you got, addiction is a addiction IMO.

I don't play it any longer as well. I wasted too much time on that virtual drug. I felt like Blizzard rewarded the whiners too much. People complained that those who were hardcore raiders (myself and co.) had too much of an advantage over them. I quit shortly before the first expansion came out and sold my account for $550 USD and never looked back.

I played since Vanilla and just got burnt out. Most of my friends and guild mates quite as well. We were all hardcore raiders and just got burnt out from playing so much.

Must be more players on this forum that ain't burnt out or waiting for the next expansions?

Or are we all just gamers in general, though I'm bit surprised seeing it's more people playing EVE online. Maybe I can conclude that this is a tech forum, so people choose something more challenging instead then?

played for 5-6 years and couldnt do it anymore. blizz just kept catering to the casuals and the whiny kids that were too annoying to get into a group or raid. didnt bother to sell my account. gave it away to a random kid at bestbuy who was looking to buy the game. made his week im sure. poor bastard.

Hah, that blows. I didn't bust my ass in one of the top guilds in the world to just hand my shit over. I was satisfied with the $ I got for my labor.

OK, I'm UK based and what may come as a bit of a shock to you I'm mid 30s and play WoW. Not that amazing, but so does my wife. I think what keeps me in it (as well as the character development) is the guild aspect as we're both members of a decent guild and because all the members of it are 18+ it tends to be pretty mature so there is the social aspect, but also the fact that we can and have met up on occasions.

Ironically, earlier this year I was planning quitting due to disillusionment with the game and it was my wife who kind of told me to keep playing because I'd end up regretting it. The worst part was she actually resisted all attempts to get her into it until last November, whereas I've played it since Wrath came out.

I think for her the draw of the game is the little achievements she goes for as opposed to raiding etc. Most of the time she's playing I don't actually see her except for speaking in guild chat.

I will admit that for some people it can be too addictive, but at the same time it's like anything else: moderation is the key. Yes, we've wasted a fair few weekends on there, but I've never put it before anything else that needed doing so I think people that find it addictive need to really get it in perspective.

Most people I did play with was in their late 30's at my place, so I'm completely used to the thought of older people playing. So basically I was one of the youngest member there when I did play.

I don't think MMO is bad if you treat it like a hobby, and playing hard now and then will always happen. Just look at how people are on this forum with posting and playing with their phones, we might not like it - but we're just as bad as gamers on that part.

Addiction comes in many ways, it's just how you treat your addiction imo that counts. :)

I still play. Been playing since vanilla beta and I still very much enjoy the game. It's a good way to kill time and spend a lot of that time with real life friends I don't see that often. I've taken breaks here and there, probably the equivalent of a year, but I always come back.

Right now I have four 80's and I'm really looking forward to Cataclysm to level some more. I enjoy the story in WoW, which is another reason I keep playing.

I am back playing WoW again after trying it briefly once and getting distracted.

A girl I know coerced me into it - good news is that she has tons of leveled-out out characters and awesome stuff to help me out. :)

I started playing at launch and quit right before the beginning of the year. Got tired of paying $15 a month to do the same boring thing over and over.

I played for 2 years. I quit right after the first expansion, After forgetting what the outside of my house looked like lol..... Game was fun, I can't say there are too many games out there that can keep most interested and have that much to do in them. But this is pretty much gaming crack lol

Agree with this 100%. I quit shortly before Wrath came out. I believe it was nearing the end of arena season 3(?) maybe. Don't remember exactly. But whatever, I had full arena gear for that season with a 2300 rated team, my realm was underpopulated and every single 10 year old kid and his grandmother had epics. It is really annoying when you PvP for hours on end and spend many late nights raiding just to see some idiot that cries because he doesn't have the time to invest in the game walk around with gear equivalent to the items that I actually worked for.

On a more positive note, WoW was the only MMo I truly enjoyed. Every time I look back on my experiences with that game I can only smile. I had some truly great times and I made a TON of friends, but that's all in the past now :'(

  23. I started wow when it was first released but couldnt get into it too much since leveling sucked (got to level45 in vanilla wow) leveled to 60 with TBC and again stopped cause it couldnt hold my interest. Wrath came out and I was unemployed so I decided to try th game again. I ended up playing for a year after wrath. Worked my way up from level 60 to hardcore endgame raider (#1 ally rogue on my server and guild in DPS, didnt PvP). I quit after my guild got server first for clearing ulduar fully including algalon.

I quit because there were already PUGs on my server almost clearing yogg saron. and here I was busting my ass with a 8-1am raid schedule 4 days a week.

Joking aside from first post made by me, here is another full run video - meaning no whipaton movie from the beta heroic.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vMLB9j24gQ

I again say this, blizzard is welcoming crowd control and instant kill death mechanisms back. It will certainly not be a cakewalk anymore, I know lots of friends have complained about this.

By those three small/large movies, you will get a bit insight of what you can expect from cataclysm. Feel free too follow TotalHalibut, he is probably among the best commentators when it comes to WoW and he also got some great movies of other games such as Starcraft2.

By all means, do not judge the game just by his movies - but he is very exclipt about what he is and describes what he thinks about what he have seen/done. Commentary on dungeons and zones. It's a good indicator of what to expect.
