Would you pay to waterproof your phone?

No. Two things:

1) If it waterproofs, logically it would also prevent heat from escaping also - thus your phone would possibly run hotter.
2) I saw a local tech journalist use Liquipel live on a webcast and his phone died on air (the screen worked and nothing else did - then nothing worked). But it was an apple phone, so what do I care?

That IS interesting! :)

i saw an ad that Otterbox had put out regarding some sort of waterproof case, but it was just for Iphones, i think, and quite expensive.

It may waterproof it, but i feel like shattered screens are more common than water damage. That would still warrant an insurance claim, and then you lose the waterproofed phone.

Not worth it for me.

Good idea! I have dropped a few phones into the water, and they didn't survive!!!

So it will keep water out,but it must then allow heat too escape?

It doesn't say anything in the article..

If it worked - so didn't cause overheating, warranty issues etc - I probably would.

Have to say, though that I would be kinda ticked off having to do it as its absolutely insane that devices specifically meant to be used outdoors aren't mandated to be water resistant to a couple of metres in the first place.

I can't understand how there hasn't been a class action in the US about this - the US is famously crazy litigious, how come they haven't sued about this?! :D

I'm sure Leo Laporte from TWiT tried this fairly recently with a Samsung Galaxy something. Submerged the phone, it didn't work.

Leo is the "tech journalist" I referenced in the second post that lost an apple phone to Liquipel. Live on Twit even!

A long time ago I saw on a news show that a company called HzO was going to do this. On the show, it said that you could mail your phone to them and they would coat it in their stuff. When I checked their website; however, it was a different story. They were working with OEM's instead.
