I don't buy it, because my Dinc has been Incredible so far, I've never had any issues like and I got mine the day they came out, so I've been rocking it since day one and everybody loves my Dinc.

Same here. I cannot reproduce anything like it on my DInc, either on the lock screen or with a paint program.

I've had mine since launch, never had a problem with the touch screen, it's one of the best IMO. :)

This is old news, My incredible does this on soft surfaces like my bed, couch and soemtimes even in the car dock, my replacement is on its way, hopefully it wont do it.

The 1st replacement they sent me was a refurb and that also had the problem, VZW and HTC have been told about this problem, and there isn't an update at this time, I was told that an OTA software update down the line should fix it but tbh I'm not sure about that.

hopefully my new one won't have the issue.

Would this be a huge issue? Mine is not having the problem, bit I'm not setting where I'd be like, "OMG I need a new phone!"

Sent from my Incredible using Tapatalk.

LOL how often do you set your phone down on Styrofoam and use it, This video is a complete waste of bandwidth!

The dude in the video has 4 other fingers just sitting there watching his index finger try to swipe the phone on a soft unstudy surface.. is it THAT big of a deal to pinch the sides?

My girlfriend's Incredible suffers from this. It's annoying, but not to the point where it frustrates you.

I've demoed an Eris. Now that thing is unresponsive!!

The Incredible has never given me trouble in terms of responsiveness.

    It's extremely zippy.

The video thing has never happened to me - owner since release.

Not a huge issue NO, but seems kinda weird to me, I mean I noticed it when it was in my car dock first, plugging it in to charge fixes the issue, as the charger then grounds the phone.

Since the phone isn't grounding properly when on these surfaces, makes you wonder why... Meaning every-time you pick up the phone your grounding it, hence why some people in the past have mentioned tingly sensations in the hand and arm from using the phone...

Apparently some Evo's are also having the same issue.

I don't really mind the issue, and HAVE NOT noticed any tingly, im just commenting on forums/posts i've found online, also convo's i've had with VZW Techs.

There is a grounding issue/flaw with some DIncs, and then some are perfectly fine, not sure why, but it is definitely out there.

Anyways, no slamming me down, im just posting my 2cents, as I had the problem with unresponsive screens on 2 handsets, My original and the refurb replacement, Hopefully my new retail replacement wont do it.

If it does not a big deal, but you think a $600 phone wouldn't do this. $600 being the retail off contract price...

I know. I've said this in other threads too, but I'm amazed at how many people demand (and receive!) a new phone for problems that are software or user error (not saying either is the case here necessarily). It must cost Verizon/phone mfgs a fortune.

Its only a real issue with car docks. And thats what the styrofoam simulates, not being grounded. Not a very big issues imo unless you travel a lot and use navigation to find your way around.

This is pretty old news too, I am surprised engadget is just getting to it, if at all... Probably cause not many people really saw it as a big problem and it just got brought up again cause people are tearing into all the Evo issues.

This was documented on the forum by igloo7 when the Inc first came out. Mine has the same problem but only happens when you have it in a dock or non hard surfaces without holding it with the other hand. Even if you don't use it on softer surfaces it is a pain not to be able to swipe through menus when in a car dock. What's weird is if you ground it by plugging in the charge cord the screen works normal on any surface or in the dock. This is a real problem but can go unnoticed by some due to how you use it.

I have tried mine on the couch, my bed, on what I believe to be styrofoam (tons of it at work), and many others surfaces.

There is only one surface I can reproduce this on. The other day when I was going to clean my bathroom, I took a Mr Clean Magic Eraser (bathroom version) out of the box, and set the phone on the box, with one still in the package (2-pack.) The phone was no longer responsive. Moving the phone over to the empty half of the package fixed the issue.

So... my touchscreen doesn't work when the phone is set on Mr Clean Magic Eraser.

Maybe I'm using the wrong (right?) type of styrofoam? I've tried the packaging pieces that come with different brands of computers, servers, routers, switches, etc and it still works.

Mine has this problem. Its not just styrofoam as others have stated. If its on my bed or next to me on the couch it wont respond to any touch or be really spotty about it.

If its connected to my charger its fine though.

Its really not enough of a problem for me to return it. Id rather not return it and end up getting an even more defective unit ie:pink screen.

Yes not all DInc have had this problem, but alot have been reported and video'ed with the issue, everyone needs to know that it is a Falt with SOME Dinc, but not a fault that is so big it makes the phone awful, Some people think its a grounding issue, and some people think its a G sensor issue, point is its an issue, that someone at HTC should know about, explain what it is and a way of fixing it if possible. As the phone is VZW flag ship at the moment, every tech I've spoke to knows about it and "SAY" (cough cough) that they have forwarded it to HTC.

Not sure i believe them tbh...

There was a big thread about this when it was initially launched, it mainly effects if you try to mount it in your car. Someone suggested it was a grounding issue, as if you plug it in it should work ok.

This is just my opinion but i bet the problem was fixed at some point in the production line and that is why a lot of people have no problem and can't reproduce the issue. Also it makes me wonder about the so called lack of screens as the reason the back order problem existed. Could it be that they were waiting on a fix before sending anymore hand sets out? If they admitted a problem that required us to send back the defective ones it would be very costly. I'm sure thats why it's taking so long before an acknowledgement from HTC that there is a problem.

    Here is the original thread.

I have no issue swiping my phone or selecting apps/widgets when my phone is laying down, but I usually have trouble long pressing to add a widget until I pick my phone up. Not a big deal and as a long as I can continue to be able to swipe and select things, I don't really care.

Yes its been an issue for some handsets, nor sure the screen issue had anything to do with it tho, hence my first phone was within 1st 2 weeks of phone being out, my 1st replacement was a refurbish original handset from launch, have to see what my new retail handset will be like, should be here in about 12 days.

Think some was maybe just from a bad batch or something, not really sure.
