Awesome sounds about right! By end of quarter 3 I'm sure we all expected late september, probably can add another week or so onto that while the networks do their bit of time wasting!

Glad to have a less vague time scale though I for one will happily accept this and put my mind at rest that it's coming soon but not to hold my breath, good find!

If you're game you can debrand it and, hopefully, get the update when SE releases it.

if they slow 2.1 down i will go mental..
have you seen the debacle that is 360? do you have the annoying 360 updates icon? try updating lol it says to do it then says it can't, dumb b*****ds at voda put that junk on the phone and it doesn't work properly....
i know when my contract is up with them i will be going to another network!!
    its a long story lol

Ditto with Three - that said wasn't one of the later f/w stuffed with that WiFi bug.

Still no update on the "official" SE forums though. :(

So it seems you don't use that expression in the UK...!

In this context it would mean "if you're willing to go through the process", i.e. if you've read the instructions and you're comfortable with them, go for it!

    Well...

The version is confirmed for sure, but the release date ain't actually confirmed quite yet.

But they are doing all they can to release this month, that's for sure

i still don't get why i read ages ago..in march...a reply that a guy got from sony saying it would indeed get multi touch. i am about to bail on my sony as i got a lemon and am scared to get another...mine crashes all the time...but if i knew it would someday get MT i would exchange it rather than bail on it.

here is a copy of that post in another forum back in march that a reader got from a sony rep.

Yesterday I sent an email to Sony Ericsson asking them to confirm specs features of their X10 handset. This is what I received.

    Dear ******,

Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre.

I have complied some answers to the questions that you have raised, please see below:

#1 Does the device itself support multi touch? I am aware that the the
current OS Android 1.6 does not.

The handset has a capacitive screen that is capable of multi touch for features such as pinch zooming. This feature will be implemented by the upgrade to 2.1

#2 Does the device have an internal digital compass which would show
    direction in google maps?

The X10 does have a magnetometer that acts as a digital compass.

#3 Will android 2.1+ be coming to the Xperia x10 in 2010?

The handset has been confirmed to be upgraded to 2.1, however there are no time scales for this, developement is currently working on implementing the Timescape/Mediascape to 2.1.

Should you have any further questions do not hesitate to ask.

    Kind Regards,

    Paul Conlan

    you wouldn't understand lol
so if this email is true, and the phone really isn't capable of "multi-touch"(as they claim now to be)... then we ask for a refund?
    --------
everyone i know that knows something about cellphone claims that the x10 capacitive screen IS capable of multi-touch

The Streak in Europe has 2.1, link:
Dell Streak In The UK Gets The 2.1 Update | TheUnlockr

So when did Europe get the streak? Early part of this year like they did with the X10i? Stateside is still with 1.6. If stateside had gotten it, I would be a tad upset. As it stands, I'm banking on us getting it by the end of this month, or some folks may be a tad P.O'd!

Folks, Multi-Touch is NOT, say again, is NOT coming to the X10. As much as I wish it was, it simply is NOT.

link:Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will never get multitouch | Android Community

“I don’t have any technical details around the screen to share, sorry! – However I have now gotten confirmation on the question of multi touch. As said earlier there’s no multitouch in X10 – and I also can confirm that it’s not only related to SW but also to HW. Despite this, for future updates of X10 we are of course working on other solutions for e.g. zooming, which has been requested frequently on this blog, such has the solution demoed on X10 mini” Rikard Skogberg, Sony Ericsson

Further proof that we are NOT getting multitouch, read the Sony Blog:
One hand touch operation – we just love it! | Product Launch Blog

    It just keeps on coming................
