    Xperia X Compact (F5321). Oreo 8.0

Few days back it suddenly goes No Service, no calls or SMS so:
    1. Obtained new SIM card - still No Service
    2. Tested new SIM card in back up device - SIM works fine
    3. Factory Reset - still No Service
    4. Sent away for repair, returned with work carried out "Software Update" - works for two days then No Service again.
    5. Tried all the usual Network Settings reset, etc - still No Service
When I insert the SIM card the phone restarts and shows No SIM Card - No Service and the No SIM card icon shows in the status bar. After 5 or so minutes the phone changes to showing No Service and the No Service icon (empty triangle). This seems odd.

Phone has not been dropped, it has a protective case, and has not been immersed.

Can anyone help with ideas for a fix, please?

Contact your carrier who gave you the Sim card

    Thanks for the suggestion Dannydet

Existing SIM card works fine in other phones, and other working SIM cards do not work in this Xperia phone, so it looks like the phone is at fault.

I own the Xperia phone outright - not on contract - so carrier's only suggestion is to issue yet another SIM card

it could also be your phone itself. your phone came out in 2016......might be time to start thinking about upgrading the phone.

Indeed, 5 years is a while. But I would like to fix it - it's been good so far.

If I have to replace it does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable, bloat-free, modern compact phone?

I do not need a fancy camera but good battery life would be good.

probably can get a good deal on samsung's s9 or s10 by now. i love my note 10+ but i'm upgrading to the z fold 3 in a few days when it arrives at my house.

    what's your budget?

OK, I see now. Original link must have been unavailable to UK so took me to a Galaxy S21 Ultra!
A52 possible, looks interesting, and thanks for your advice.
I still want to explore a fix for my old Xperia XC though.....
