I don't believe I mentioned having issues with any m.site's.... I only said that Firefox didn't load the site as a m.site and I had to manually direct it there is all.

I just did some testing. Over Wifi, m.foxnews takes 4 seconds to load, androinica takes 9 seconds, Android Central takes 13 seconds.

3G speeds are appropriately slower but only by a few seconds each.

I just tried this site. It took 38 seconds from when I started loading the URL, to when the final redirected site was done loading, of which 10-12 seconds was sitting at the page with the advertisement on it.

    xScope --

Once you fixed the rendering problems I was having on my observatory control software's web/browser UI, I switched to xScope from Dolphin. You're doing a great job, thanks!!

One very minor request: I like the older plain blue "Chrome" look. If it's not too much trouble, perhaps you can give us the choice of the old vs new themes?

I have to agree with mattots here; closing a tab originated by an external application equates to a request to exit xScope *only* when the user has taken no additional actions since that tab was opened. This means:
    * the user has not gone to another application (xScope has not lost focus)
    * the user has not opened any additional tabs or switched to any existing tabs
    * the user has not navigated to a new URL, the home page, or a bookmark, or performed a Google search within the current tab (the user has not gone to anypage other than the one loaded by the external app)

Note that that last bullet goes further than what mattots said; what I'm advocating would have xScope close only if the user had not left the page to which the external application directed them (plus any page that could be accessed by links from that initial page).

    Tim

P.S. Gary, the thing that to me exemplifies what is so special about this browser is your post a few days back where at 3AM you (excitedly) let us know that you had found a fix for the memory bug, and would have an update to us ASAP. Your dedication and responsiveness are greatly appreciated by all of us, and I hope that any who follows this forum has bought the paid version of the app to give back to the developer who gives us such great support.

I think this is a very good argument. I will implement it.
There was no memory leak but CPU leak so to speak and it was fixed. It there is a non-public API called onStop() and I have to use reflection to access that.
6 does uses quite a bit memory to achieve instant view switching. I would say, the minimum hardware should be Droid.

Can xScope (5.34) be set up so that clicking a link opens in a new tab?

As it is now, clicking on a link opens in the same tab, while long-pressing a link offers the option to open in a new tab.

It would be so nice to be able to keep a "home" tab with My Favorites open, from which to open new tabs. PC browsers like Chrome and Firefox do this with a right click. Could xScope be configured to automatically open links in new tabs?

V5 does this. I'm running 5.36 and a long press on a link automatically opens in a new tab. Are you sure you're not running V6?

On xScope 6, does the Trial version disable saving passwords/logins?

I've been asked for my password everytime I navigate to a site in a new tab, regardless if I've checked, or used, any 'save password' 'keep me logged in' or equivalent dialogs.

I've been trying this for a couple of days in trial mode before purchase, but this is a pain point for me, so I'm wondering if this is a browser issue, or a trial version issue.

I'm running on a T-Mobile G2 if that makes any difference whatsoever.

How does xScope compare to Dolphin HD speed-wise? I switch to Dolphin as I like the layout but man, it's slow opening alot of pages. I might need to give xScope a whirl.

On top of that Dolphin's swipe sideways bookmark and plug-in menus are a neat idea but they pop out all the time when I'm simply trying to browse around a page.

That's weird. When I enter logins/passwords in xScope6 trial, I don't get the always/this time/never popup that I used to get and it does save my login and I have no way to delete the login information that it saved (unless I clear app data in android application settings).

As I said, I am running 5.34. I know about the long press, as I said in my post. I am suggesting xScope users could be given the option that a click on a link will open in a new tab. Long presses slow down navigation, especially when it brings up a dialog box that I have to click.

OIC. So an option under settings that, if checked, would always open links in a new tab. Gotcha, sorry about that.

First, please go to x-Labs - @create and install latest paid version of 5.
Then we are currently put all effort on 6.
5 is not on the market. We might rollout one update to fix a few things in the future. If we do, we will definitely add that option.

    Sorry, you lost me.

I am using 6, I'd prefer to use 6, but are you saying that in version 6 there won't be a way to NOT save (or delete after saved) login information? All I want is for login information to not be saved.

Very interesting, I'll have to play a bit more, and see if I can define the behaviour better. I haven't been scrupulous about note-taking yet.

    Hi..

First of all, why is the homepage for xScope so very limited? No support options or anything. OK for free software but not now when it's a paid app. For example, look at SwiftKey - Intelligent text prediction for Android smartphones, by TouchType Ltd.. That's a good homepage for a paid app. Enough about that..

I have a big problem with xScope that I've had since the first time I tried it. After a while it just stops working going to any homepage address. I think it's related to moving around (getting/dropping WiFi).

Right now all homepages I try to visit just sits therer trying and after a while I get a Android error message.

    "Web page not available

The Web page at Google might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently...."

If I try with Dolphin or the stock browser it works immediately.

Thanks for a great browser other than that!

You need to long click BACK and select Exit. It is awkward now and I will make a fix soon.

Underlying webkit process might stop working for some reasons. As far as connections, it is not related to the app since the app never manages how you connect to the internet. It just use whatever you have. So it is very possible that during switching from WIFI to 3G you lose connection.

Could you elaborate more about what kind of homepage options your are looking for?

No as I said if I try to connect to any random homepage with Dolphin or stock it works so my Internet connection is always good. It's just that with xScope sometimes nothing works at all. I have to restart my phone to get it working again.

Right now nothing works in xScope but everything works with Dolphin+stock. I did a shutdown of xScope, no change.

I then did a FC on xScope + move to SD card + clear cache and then when I restarted xScope it worked again. Don't know which one of these actions that "cured" it.

As for the hompage, today when I visited x-labs.net I was looking for something like Welcome - SwiftKey Support to find a solution to my problem (or ask for a solution if it wasn't a already reported bug/problem).

It would also be good to have a public changelog.

There is a timer, like background thread, in webkit. This timer was messed up somehow in your case. You need to kill xScope completely (like using a killer) to reset that time again. No need to restart. This does happen.

The websiet, x-labs.net, was just setup last week and no logs yet since then. It will be more informative as we progress.

Do you really think I should be required to kill xScope with a task killer from time to time? To me it sounds like a bug that should be fixed.

As I said, I have never experienced this problem with Dolphin or stock so they seem to handle it somehow.
