I have had my droid for... this is my fourth day.

The last 3 days of using my phone I can only get from about 11 am until 10 pm.

when going to the battery usage thing I get:
    Unplugged 28 minutes

    Display 56%
    Android System 13%
    Cell Standby 8%
    Phone Idle 8%
    Android Core Apps 7%
    Market 3%
    Gmail 3%
    Android OS 2%
    Google 2%

Does this seem right? I feel like the display percentage is too high, but I don't know, as I have not had a droid for very long...

    Any help/advice would be awesome

My phone just went to 90%, and has only been off for 44 minutes. Haven't really used it at all...

I wouldn't worry about that breakdown. Given the size of the Droid's screen (especially when compared to something like a flip phone), it's almost always going to be the biggest drain on your battery. Everything else you have is comparable to what I've got.

Also, I suspect that the battery indicator is more of an estimate, so I don't worry when I see it drop to the next level of use; given my usage patterns I go through about 10% an hour on average.

    Get Spare Parts.

It will let you know exactly what is running when the screen is off, good to pin down battery drainers.

I would also turn off Wifi and GPS UNLESS you are actively using them, they can cut down the battery life rather quickly while on.

Also, be careful about what you sync, I had a corporate email setup for awhile, but it was always trying to sync because the setup was awful and drained 30% of my battery in about an hour...

But google sync (calendar and email and contacts) drain VERY little battery because since google made the OS they only push when google is updated, rather helpful really.

Beyond that my battery can usually make it a day and a half under heavy usage (about 2-3 hours of screen being on actively used on forums etc) and 2-3 days under light usage.

But I do charge it every night, why not?

WiFi yes. GPS no. Unless the little satellite thingy is showing in the notification bar (GPS being actively used), just having GPS location enabled isn't killing battery.

I second the recommendation for spare parts (or battery left widget), one that allows you to see your true usage (in minutes) as opposed to the percent of uptime like the battery screen you are looking at.

Everyone's usage is different. I go through about 5% per hour. That is using the phone for like 15 minutes every hour.

As someone who's had a Droid since December 2009, 10AM to 11PM sounds pretty damn good to me...LOL.

And, yes, the 56% for "Display" is not that high. If you have the phone on automatic brightness, that's good. But I prefer to use a brightness widget, and I keep it at 25% most times. I only turn it up to 100% on certain occassions.

If you're going to use the battery info screen it might help to let your device run for more than 28 minutes after unplugging it if you want to see what's going on. Otherwise try Spare Parts, as suggested.

Impossible to say. It wouldn't take much using the display to consume 56% of the battery used in those 28 minutes.

+1. There seems to be a common misunderstanding regarding GPS.

Okay, my phone has only been off the charger for 30 minutes and it is already down to 90%. I have everything as being synced with google, wifi and gps (though I realize it doesn't need to be) off.

Honestly, is everyone's battery life this poor?!

took my phone off the charger at 8 am and now at 345 my battery is still at 90%. I have made a few calls...sent some texts and responded to a few emails. i would consider my use 'light to moderate'

    Thank you for being oh-so-helpful.

    An update:

I charged my phone back up to 100%. It has been off the charger for 15 minutes, and on "sleep," the whole time. It is already at 90%.
