I unlocked my old Galaxy S2, put a new SIM card (3 Network) in it, and charged it up. I also updated the software but don't think that's the problem as it started before the update. Anyway, now when I turn it on, it continually sends text-to-speech messages to my home phone number. I can't stop it except by turning the phone OFF!

Has anyone got any ideas as to what's happening and how I can fix it please?? I'm desperate. I hope it's just something stupid and simple.

update: it now appears to have stopped. I don't know why as nothing changed except that I left it turned off for longer. However.... the update appears to have failed. It still shows the Android version 2.3.4 even though I did update and got the message that it was "installing...." and then it rebooted itself. Good grief this is getting very old, very quickly!

Sounds like something went awry with the update. Are you running a custom rom or still stock? If unrooted and stock, try a factory reset. (don't forget to backup first!)

Thanks. It's not rooted and I really have nothing on here that can't be blown away. It's an OLD phone. Before I try the reset, however, I'm attempting one more update. It's about halfway through it now. Fingers crossed this will work. If not, I'm just sticking to the old firmware.

Well, it's still sending the text-to-speech messages to my home landline. When I listen to the message, it's just a string of never-ending numbers the voice reads off. Very weird! I'm going to have to try a factory reset, I suppose, as soon as I find out how to do that.

One good thing, the update did work. It now shows Android 4.0.3. I tried doing the factory reset through settings but got the message "delete Samsung account first." but I can't find any way to do that. What is and where is my "Samsung account"?

In the meantime, I've turned off wifi, though it keeps attempting to connect to another wifi that isn't mine.... strange.
