Actually, a guy did this, "There are two ways you can switch to Amon RA, just use ROM manager and scroll to the bottom and select the flash alternative recovery. Here's is the thread on that." And had a heck of a time!

The Switching Recoveries portion of the Gingerbread version of the Rooting for Dummies sticky is a better bet, I think!

HUH? Had a heck of a time with what? Switching recoveries through ROM Manager? I've done it 3 times now and no issues, however I do agree that it's better to use the bootloader method which is why I linked the thread.

And once you get rooted with GB it doesn't matter what recovery you use, I just rooted a GB phone and stuck the PC36IMG.zip in the root of the card and flashed it with bootloader.

Can someone with the same configuration as me (below) tell me if you rooted successfully?

    android version: 2.3.3
    baseband version: 2.15.00.0808
    kernl version: 2.6.35.10-g13578ee
    build number: 4.53.651.1
    software number: 4.53.651.1
    PRI version: 2.15_003
    PRL version: 60681

I did the holding Power and Volume Down thing and it told me my hboot was 2.16.0001 and I know that that one is able to be rooted now. I just want to know if anyone has successfully rooted the recently updated software. Thanks! Sorry for being a pain and I know ocnbrze has said it sooo may times that it won't brick but I'm just a worry-wart and I need to be 100% sure!

nice congrats. you need to thank team unrevoked and alphrex for coming up with revolutionary. it is amazing on what they have accomplished and been able to port the expoit to other phones as well. those guys are amazing.

now go and get your flash on.:D

Well it looks as if he was trying to restore a nandroid from CWM with amon ra, not that he lost his recovery or it didn't work, because it sounds as though it clearly worked.

Bootloader method is always better and safer for switching recoveries and flashing radios, however I've flashed radios via recovery twice now without issue and flashed Amon_RA via ROM Manager without issue 3 times.

I avoid ROM manager now as well, however it's nice for noobs to have options, which again is why I gave him the thread for Amon_RA so he could read for himself and learn.

Looks to me like he used Rom Manager to install Amon Ra, and then proceeded to try to flash the radios combo.

As others have had good success with that procedure, I assumed that that installation of of Amon Ra was faulty.

You know what they say about assuming stuff though. :p

Anyhow, I wasn't faulting your advice or desire to help, I had just witnessed that event though and have heard it said in here by folk who are way more knowledgeable than I, to avoid the use of rom manager as it is buggy. so I was just chiming in. Didn't mean to offend. :)

Definitely didn't offend, man, you have to do much more to offend me...And I totally agree with that advice I avoid rom manager like the plague. ;) I should have put that in my post to him as well.

It's just that some people are so scared to go into bootloader and do anything out of it, when they are first starting out.

I appreciate all advice and help in these forums, that's how I learned.

    Have a great day. :D

    One quick question:
I have been reading but I can't figure out the easiest way to remove the Sense UI. I know I can flash a rom, but then it seems I lose something else. I flashed cyanogen, but I lose Sprint VVM. I had cyanogen on my Sprint hero before this and I don't like youmail.
I don't even care about speed, I just want to remove the bloatware and run launcher pro.
    Any suggestions?

you can get sprint vvm on cm7. there is the gapps file with the vvm included found in the roms/kernel sticky.

the other way is to just use a different lanucher.

or you can flash the senseless roms:[ROM] 10/9 MikG 2.56 Senseless, and stock senseless - xda-developers
