OK so I am ready for an upgrade with Verizon in mid September. Really was hoping for the Samsung Galaxy S2 which we of course now know is not coming. I have done research so please don't say that. This is what I found through doing that research. Now I have no idea where to go. Bionic? Wait for the Nexus? I have the original Droid Eris so you feel my pain of waiting. PLease any suggestions on a game plan as I never want to go iphone.

Definitely wait for the Nexus, you might end up extremely disappointed if you don't.

I'd basically set up to wait till at least November 1st... yes that will likely be painful, but if you make up your mind to wait till then, you'll definitely see whats in store for the upcoming holiday season. Even if it ends up being the Bionic, that phone won't be going anywhere :)

While waiting, stand by and keep your eyes open on the tech blogs and see what news they announce as far as devices coming to Verizon. Then research them all and pick which one fits your needs the best as a whole.

I'm assuming you have Verizon, as the G2 is going to all other major carriers.

Right as mentioned in my OP. Any idea on when the Nexus is expected? I hear where you are coming from about being disappointed if I don't wait, its just this eris is such a slow device. I use others phones now and just cringe when thinking of mine.

Rumor I keep hearing is October time frame (which is why I said Nov 1st), but nothing has been confirmed yet so its all speculation. I really feel your pain, I really do, but it will be worth it in the long run getting a beast of a phone for inexpensive price.

If you don't really care about the money, buy a Bionic (for example) at retail price, then when the Nexus comes out buy that on upgrade, then sell the 1st phone to recover some of your money. That can be a way to reduce the cost, but it can also get expensive.

Which Nexus are you talking about? There is a new Nexus S that is available on Best Buy's website. Is that the one you mean?

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the rumored Nexus Prime that's being talked about a lot, apparently to launch with Ice Cream Sandwhich.

Heh, yeah I know ... its something I battle myself with often. If the Bionic launches and it's a huge success, you'd come out of it ok probably... but if the device is easily available or doesn't do well, you could lose more out on it. Just depends on a lot of unknown factors.

CDS you seem to know about this Nexus. What will make this so great. I guess I don't know a lot about what Nexus really is. I know its first Ice Cream, but is there something other about the Nexus that make them beasts?

The main reason people love the Nexus line so much is because it is stock (vanilla) Android OS. What I mean by that is, it doesn't have a manufacturer UI (User interface) overlaid on top of it. This is desirable to people because when new versions of Android OS are released, the Nexus line receives the updates 1st... because they don't have to be configured to be compatible with whatever manufacturer overlay (Touchwiz, Sense, Motorola's applications platform, etc). People like getting the latest version of the OS as soon as its released.

The other reasons for the buzz on this phone is that it is rumored to have a 1.5 GHz dual core processor (higher clock speeds... although higher clock speeds do not necessarily mean better), and a 1280x720 (720p) HD screen.

Please keep in mind that these are rumors, and nothing is fact yet until it's announced.

OK I had heard about the vanilla aspect of it and now understand that now. Thanks man.

You're welcome. Mobile tech speeds move so fast, it's hard to keep up.
