Ok so I FINALLY called on this deal. I called *611 and when the menu came up I just said, 'cancel service'. So I got transferred and when the girl picked up the line she asked why I was calling and I said to enquire about the $9.99 unlimited data plan. Then she responded, "you mean the $29.99 data plan"? I said, "no, $9.99". So she humms a little like she's looking through a list (which I doubt very much), and then responds, "I'm sorry but I don't see anything like that listed".

So I says back to her, "well a friend of mine and I were planning on canceling our Verizon service to go with the Sprint $69.99 everything plan"........... and bam, it was like giving the secret handshake, she was as helpful as anyone possibly could be after that.

She asked, "do you know who they called"? And I said, "yeah, they were transferred to the 'Loyalty and Retention' deptartment or something like that... they said the $9.99 data plan was some sort of promotion". Then she asked to place me on hold for a quick second while she looked up that information.

When she came back she said she found what I was looking for, but instead of being a $9.99 data plan, it was still a $29.99 data plan, but the promotion would credit $20 dollars back, per plan (I have 3), so it works out to be $9.99 (so why not just call it a $9.99 data plan? I'll tell you why, so when people call in to ask about the $9.99 data plan, they can act like you're crazy!).

Indeed I did have to upgrade to the 1400 minutes, up from my 700 plan. But you see I get a 19% discount from my employer, so the difference between the 2 for me was $14 bucks... subtracted from my $60 credit means I get to enjoy a $46 dollar savings per month from here on out!

After I was done with her she transferred me to a fellow who would 'give me the details'. He immediately said, "ok so you 're switching from the Sprint $69 dollar everything plan correct"? This tells me you're probably better off throwing 'Sprint' into the conversation early on in your call, as it seems to draw the red flag. I said yes and then he specified that I would enjoy this promotion for as long as I...

    A) keep the 1400 minute plan. And
    B) keep unlimited data and text messaging on those plans.

There was no mention of a 2 year experation of the plan, and my employee discount didn't matter at all. I still qualified. Then I asked him if extending my contract out a year would effect my upgrade coming up in April of this year? He assured me it would not effect my 'new every two' upgrade. That struck me as a bit odd as i was under the impression that they had done away with the 'new every two' thing? Perhaps they just don't sign up new customers on that anymore? I don't know.

Ok so then I asked him the million dollar question.... I said, "my upgrade date will be near the launch of the Droid Bionic, will this unlimited data extend to a 4g device? Or will that be something different"? He said, "well first of all we don't have a release date yet for the Bionic. Secondly, Verizon has not outlined how 4g plans will or will not differ from 3g plans, so that's not something we can answer at this time".

Well ya can't win em all, but that's pretty damn close! I guess ex-wives aren't all bad after all! For anyone still on the fence, i say call tomorrow and say exactly what I said, mention switching over to Sprint's $69.99 everything plan, mention the 'Loyalty and Retention' department, and mention that it's a promo, not a plan. If at first you don't succeed, try again.

It's worth it! Even if you only have one plan, if you're currently on the 700 minute plan the 1400 minute plan is $20 dollars more (unless you have an employee discount), but then they credit you back $20 for the data. So you don't walk away empty handed, you get twice the minutes for the same price... I don't care if you usually only use 200 minutes a month (like me), it's still better. There could always be that one month when you need those extra minutes, you just never know. And besides that I would assume if you ever do add another line and you already have this promo on your account, it would probably pertain to it as well. I can't guarantee that, but I would think it would.

I got the deal for my single line (saved about $15/mo). My dad got the deal for family share plan (saved about $65/mo).

    Thanks for sharing this info!

The agent who I talked to at the 877 number said that today (jan 30) is the final day of the promotion and that their call center isn't even open on Sundays.

They really think we are all just dumb hicks! Didn't take very well, an not a big response? You didn't didn't advertise anywhere! Had that plan been offered instore, there would be lines out the door with people switching! It almost makes me mad:mad:

Yeah really, it's like they're saying, "you know we tried our best to save people money, but as it turns out people like our service so much they just want to pay us more to show their appreciation for being such a bad ass company". R I G H T....

I don't know a single person, in ANY income range who wouldn't want to save a minimum of $240 (savings on a single plan) per year without losing anything in exchange. Take me, this will save me about $550 dollars this year (they back dated me to Jan 15th, my billing cycle date). And what did I have to sacrifice to get these savings? NOTHING. What do I gain? Well said $550 bucks for starters, plus an extra 700 minutes to play with on my plan. I might use them, I might never use them, either way it's still better than what I had.

But according to Verizon most folks just aren't that interested in keeping some extra pocket change to carry around eh? I call bullshit. If someone would have posted a way to save even $5 bucks a month on my bill without giving up anything I would have done it. It's a savings, who in their right mind would shrug their shoulders at that?

I got the distinct impression with talking to the girl I talked to that they are told to try to steer us away from the plan unless it's clear we know exactly what we're talking about. Had I not said 'Sprint', or 'Loyalty & Retention' deptment, or 'promotion', I think she would have continued to play dumb about it to the end. The least sincere part of our entire conversation is that she acted all excited to have found the promotion I was calling about and was oh so happy she could help me save money.

    Yeah right.

They actually do test promotions like this all the time. They are usually sent out to a group of people in a particular market to see what kind of response they will get. This particular promotion was just like all the others that you might never hear about only this time a tech savvy user got the email and posted it for forum consumption. In the end Verizon is just like any other business and intends to make as much money off of each subscriber as possible. In this particular case the promotion reached the general public of sorts and they were left with no choice but to honor the promo to the callers that wouldn't take no for an aswer. I get promotions similar to this at least 2-3 times per your but I have never recieved one this good. Lets hope that in the future promos like this will reach an even wider audience than this one did.

Man I wish I had noticed this earlier =( I would totally have thrown the $30 data on just to get this in anticipation of my new Fascinate coming soon. Looks like I caught it just too late =(

Well I have read that the Promo ends today the 30th and have also read that it ends on the 31st.. So you may not be too late to get it...

That's correct. Anyone who will have NE2 qualification or who already had it can use it up until 6 months after the date it becomes available, but no new customers will be given the ability to get it.

So can you get it? Did you try calling today? I noticed someone else posted this morning around 9:30 am that they had gotten it. Dunno if they called today or yesterday.

I'm afraid to add the $30 data to my line and then get turned down lol. I know I can still take it off but it's still a pain.

Nah man it doesn't work like that. You call and ask for the promotion, if you have to upgrade the other line to a data package then they will tell you that. You may not have to, I really don't know. But at any rate, you'd be calling for the promotion, not to add data to your other line. They wouldn't ask you to add data if you didn't get the promotion.

Yeah but the whole reason I want the promotion is because I'm going to be getting a Fascinate soon, so I want the cheap data lol.

You do not have to use the data on every phone. My dad has three lines of service, and only two phones are "smartphones". They still gave him the deal. His primary line (the dumbphone) is due for an upgrade, so it's a no brainer that he will upgrade it to a smartphone. He's planning to either get the iPhone or a newer Droid this spring.

Also, the rep told me that Verizon has around 94 million subscribers and this promotion went out to approximately 500,000 people.

Wow, just over 1/2 a percent. I'd be interested in knowing how many of those 94 million are on smart phones.

My mother was able to get this. They kept telling her no, but after 3 transfers and an hour on the phone she got the promo. I forgot to tell my brother until today. He is going to try to get it tomorrow.

Let us know how it goes. If it's still valid tomorrow then I'd say there will be quite a few people calling as well.

this worked for me, but it took a little coaxing. basically i had to tell her i could get service with another carrier via a family plan for ~$50 (US Cellular). the thing about US cellular is that they also use CDMA, and lease verizon's towers, so when she said other networks aren't reliable i shot back to her that i'd be using the exact same towers with US cellular. she didn't have anything to say about that, so she put me on hold and made me the offer when she got back.

summary: first she said i was not eligible for that (only people that got the email). then i explained i was going to leave, then she talked to her supervisor and gave me the promotion. she confirmed the offer will be gone by midnight tonight.

i get 450mins, unlimited data, unlimited text, for $59.99. with my employee discount, that brings it to a $51 total. kick ass!

I was just on live chat with Verizonwireless asking to lower my data plan from the unlimited to the $15 and they told me it's no longer available and that it was a promotional service. Has anyone heard of this? Is it true. Would it help if I called and asked to speak to a supervisor?

    Thanks for your input.

I wish I had known that yesterday - I would have called to lower our data plan on our droid's. We're not using a huge amount of data lately.
