Oh yeah, if you click the small "youtube" logo in the upper left of the widget it will actually take you to the youtube app.

It wont let me click on the logo on the widget?...

I even tried using the optical pad and it just highlights the widget minus the search part of the widget...

For me I can't get the widget to do anything, it just keeps displaying "Loading"

Other than that I can't see any downsides.

Think the OP said he tried the 720p and no dice but I don't see why some of the new widgets shouldn't work

Ok...I did have the three videos for most viewed on the widget...

Now after I logged into my YouTube account through the app I'm getting the loading thing now...logged back out and get the three videos again...and the loading goes away...

Did reboot still nothing...but...I can click on the logo now and it opens up the app...weird...

It looks like the widget shows the top 3 videos from the current week, meaning that it'll usually just show the same links for several days straight. Has anyone been able to adjust it to show the top videos of the present day? This would be more useful, I think.

Works great on my rooted Nexus one. During install it warned me that it was upgrading a system application. Homescreen widget doesn't work, stays on "loading".

I tried downloading the link. I get a message saying file is empty and not supported for incredible. Anyone else get that message?

I found that my phone acted very strange after I installed the apk. I couldn't change my wallpaper and the general UI was unresponsive. I rebooted and it everything worked fine after, including the widget.

Thanks for pointing that out to me! Signing out and back into the app now shows thumbnails on my homescreen widget.

Edit: Oops, missed the second part. Every time you sign back in you get the loading thing just as described. Oh well.

are you logged into youtube when its working?

Installed it. Widget doesn't work anymore but it never really did for me. Now just have the program instead of the widget on one of my screens and it works perfectly. Thank god I don't have to hit menu every time now to select high quality!

The widget never seemed that useful to me so don't really care if it works or not. The app is great though, much better video quality without having to select it.

If you are having problems and want to go back, just go to Manage applications, find Youtube and do uninstall updates. Done.

Not sure if there's an easier way to do it but i have "astro folder manager" installed. (its in the Android marketplace) use it to find your "downloads" folder on your phone. This is all done on your phone. No pc necessary. Anyways look for your downloads folder. make sure look on your memery card and phone memory cuz I can't remember which mine was in. You should see a YouTube icon. Select it and you should be presented with either an update or install option (can't remember). It should install and replace your original youtube app. You have to go into the aps settings to have "high quality" as default.

I downloaded on my DI, then used astro, upgrade.

Works great, but there's an annoying problem that was in the first MD (moto droid) build...

The main youtube screen DOES NOT REFRESH the videos. Last time I used youtube was 6 days ago on the phone, and all videos are 6 days old.

Same after a reboot.... uninstalling here.

Yup, after removing the apk (upgrade), it's back to normal and has todays top videos. Good try OP! I wonder if it will behave the same on EVO?
