This is true. I know when I was a supervisor at Samsung, I was pretty chill at times. Agents didn't do their job, though, then they learned about the business side of me.
I've been a manager at hooters (true story) I loved the girls and their personality but when they acted up I had to be blunt and stern. They hated it but knew why and who I am. They recovered quickly.
The first...Week about I was a manager, people thought I was going to be a pushover. I fired 8 people that week. They learned pretty damn quick that I like to have fun, but I'm all business when I have to be.
Exactly. I'm great to work with, so long as you do your job. You don't, well...I will tell you. Do it, or get out. I have no problem firing people. I kind of enjoyed it.
I wouldn't say that I "enjoy it" but rather that doing it doesn't bother me. I mean, I hate knowing that someone will be out of the job in an economy like this but at the same time, the job isn't THAT difficult... do it or GTFO so I can get someone who will.
Reasoning was downsizing. Unemployment paid me, so it's all good.
Funny thing is, they wanted me to come back to work there. I was like hell no...How do I know you won't do it again. I can't have an unstable work environment. I need stability.

See here's my thing. At Samsung, I was salary. If someone was struggling, fine. I understand. I would come in 2 hours before, and stay a few hours late and use my own time to train them.
IF they aren't going to take advantage of that, or they aren't going to show up, or aren't going to do their job...they don't DESERVE the job. There are more deserving people out there. People who will work, do what they are supposed to, and go home for the day.
I never asked that you LOVED your job; I asked that you showed up, and did it.
Yeah I won't show up crazy early or stay crazy late unless I learn everything I need. I need my time with my family. I lost 7 months of my daughters 16 month life. I won't do that again.
I dont mean every day. I was gone Monday thru Friday. She wouldnt let me feed her or put her to sleep. She forgot who I was. I made it clear to my boss that part of the job was done then and there.
I didn't move 1300 miles to simply feed my kid. I came to be a father and let her know me and be a true parent. A true parent in my mind is someone who teaches their kid.. not just discipline or let them Do what they want and clean up behind em.
