This is the 1st phone I've ever owned to beat me when it comes to root. Great phone made by a not so great company. So moving on to the next device.
In this case I'm actually taking a step back and going back to the Moto X Pure edition 2015. Got everything I need and I'm able to unlock the bootloader & root it within 15 minutes the day I get it. Also it's waaaay cheaper now.
So what is your next device and why?

Thinking about getting the S8 plus or any other phone that has a big screen and dev support. My lg g Stylo which I gave up for this had 1 rom lol. Even my LG l70 has a bunch of dev support and that phone is old.

This phone has its problems and I'm getting fed up with them.

The phone would be great if it functioned as intended. Idk if it's just me but the touchscreen is temperamental. Sometimes it doesn't register touch or it registers it inaccurately (ie. I'll be scrolling down a page and it clicks links my finger slides over while I scroll)

Idk where I go from here but IMO it's going to be more expensive. This phone offered a lot under the hood and I feel I can't go backwards (isn't that always how it is with tech? Or just me? Lol)

So we'll see I guess. Without nexus around anymore there's nothing I'm dying to get.

For $399 (from website) from Boost you can get the HTC Bolt. It has root and you'll have tethering.

I'm in the same boat. I really liked the hardware on the phone for the price. If I would of known root was nearly impossible I would of passed. I honestly thought about getting the axon 7 for root but zte isn't getting another dime from me.

I ended up getting the huwaei honor 5x , was on sale , had it rooted with lineage rom within 15 minutes. Not To mention huwaei unlocks your bootloader for you if you register on their site (take notes zte).

I did end up returning the honor 5x since the 6x is available at my local Best Buy this week. I recommend you guys checking it out.

I really don't understand why companies are sticklers about root. Who the hell cares about warranty or security, only the people who aren't rooting it imo.

If zte would of just unlocked the bootloader they wouldn't even need to update the software , the community would of just done it for them via debloated and custom Roms.

Not sure on my next device, I miss the jailbreak world but Apple is so expensive. As long as it has dev support I'm happy. This phone could have been a hit I think.

Gonna keep mine.. Did all the tweaking I could without root to it.. My daily driver is LG G Stylo 2 plus (rooted w/xposed).. So not pressed over it anymore.. It would've been nice.. But ZTE is hating

Just got my Huawei Honor 8 today with my tax returns. You know what's funny? They actually HELP you unlock and root the device. No kidding! I'm installing Xposed and root right now.

ZTE lost a customer. I think I will stick with Huawei for a while now.

Glad you got the 8 instead of the 6x. How are you liking Nougat and EMUI 5 is it. Should be a snappy little phone. Reading this thread with nothing open with 1 page opened in my browser I did a quick search for Honor 8 prices. I checked my free RAM right before the search. It was at 475mb and this page still completely reloaded. Makes me feel like I'm using a iPhone 3G in 2009 again. I just started a new job after a few weeks unemployed and have to do some car maintenance but definitely going to do my research when buying a phone to insure Root, Xposed, TWRP, etc etc all are working fine with no issues.

I'm staying on 6.0 because 7.0 doesn't support Xposed. I might get CM 13.0 on this thing since the tethering provisions work with all GSM carriers meaning no tether for me lol.

This phone is wonderful, the colors are so vivid and rich. It's still IPS but the color is great and the 4GB of RAM and dual SIM tray is a nice feature too.

Oh and to help you further, Huawei helps you unlock your device and flashing TWRP is straight-forward. Not many ROMS are available but it's realtively safe and easy to root and install TWRP on EMUI 4.1. There is a port of CM 13 for this device that I might try soon. The Huawei Suite comes with recovery tools incase you brick your device so you're safe. This phone is a good choice if you ask me.

The buttons are not very responsive when you've opened a lot of apps recently compared to the Alcatel fierce 4 that I got for free on the family plan.

My question to y'all is where are you gonna service these phones? I didn't think any BYOD plans offered unlimited data?

That's the reason I didn't get the Moto G4, I couldn't use it with Boost, and others won't let you choose the unlimited plan if you bring your own device.. unless I'm missing something?

I have tmobile, I'm pretty much going to get phones only on t-mobile's site. Since I'm not looking to spend that much money yet I was going to choose the Galaxy j7, but I think I'll wait for the S8 plus.

The Zmax Pro is going to be my daily driver for awhile. It does everything I need and I haven't had any problems with it. I don't care about root, it's a nice extra but I don't buy any new phone blindly expecting root. If I wanted root I would have bought a phone that had it already.

I'm frankly done with expensive phones, I just am. I never feel like I get my money's worth anymore because Android has reached that point where using it on mediocre hardware isn't a laggy horrible mess like it used to be. I'm not a mobile gamer so basically a lot of what makes the more expensive phones worth it are irrelevant to me and I don't care about 1440p/4k screens, I'm happy with a nice 1080p screen. The only thing more expensive phones have is the storage but I feel like that will be changing in a huge way the next few years. My next phone will be whatever cheap big decent phone is available when this phone breaks or if I just feel like getting something better. Xiaomi seems to be doing interesting things so I'll be watching out for them or if my friends want to part with their high end phones for cheap.

Otherwise, I'm not wasting money on phones over $200 ever again. :p
