I am coming from a blackberry to an xperia x10. I have Vista on my laptop and I wanted to upload my photos that were on my blackberry to the XPERIA 10X.. I have copied them all to my laptop.

There was no software with the phone..and when I plugged in the cable and tried to open the phone through 'My Computer' (as nothing else popped up) it says.. "Please insert a disk into removable disk G"..

I have tried several times and this continues to happen..

How can I upload my prior photos, videos and voice notes??

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to help me out.

When you connect the phone via usb you need to mount it, yes that is what its called lol.

To mount the phone, plug in the usb lead and then pull down the notification bar. It's at the top of the screen where the battery indicator is, just place your finger at the top of the screen and drag it down.

You will see a notification asking if you want to "mount” the phone, click on it and then you can access the SD card from "my computer"

Go on there and do the drag and drop for the files into the relevant folders, not to sure about voice memos though... Think you might need an app for that :)

Thank you for that.

I have done as you said and installed the media software.. although I can't get my head around it and I couldn't find how to get folders in there.

I did open the software up from 'my computer' and go into folders and copy and paste so I am going to see if that worked.. mannnn I hope I get to love this phone as much as I love my Blackberry (which I got another sim card for as I am just not ready to get rid of it all together).

How can I resize the photos so I can send them in an mms please?

Thank you for your welcome too.. Where would we be without our forums hey :)

Just to add as opposed to opening another thread.. how do I copy folders of photos to the phone and which folder do I drop them into because I think the software pulled every photo off of my computer.. :(

Essentially I would like to copy a folder of photos (have them categorized) and have them in my new phone... pooch... son... daughter...holidays etc...

I know eventually I will get my head around this but for now I just need some tips with these basics..

Thank you again.

Hey there Kymberly,

I'm sure once you get used to the new operating system and the differences between Android and Blackberry you'll love your X 10.
As for your questions let's see if we can give you some answers.
If you want to insert a picture into an mms you can do this without resizeing the photo. When you click insert and then picture on a message, when you select an image the phone will automatically resize it down to mms size, so there's no need to worry. I tested this with the default message client and it works. I haven't tried it with and third party messaging applications.
Now as for copying photos onto the phone I find that using. Windows explorer (My Computer) is the most straight forward way. If you already have your photos organised on your hard drive into folders you can just copy them directly on to the phone memory card (once It's "mounted") and they should appear in Mediascape in albums that have the same name as the folder.
I only use the Sony software for copying Music and Video as the software converts the music and video into the correct format that the phone can read. This Is not really necessary for pictures.

Hope this helps,
/John

Hi there and thank you for your help.

I maybe wasn't very clear (due to being flustered over the new phone).

I tried to send a mms and had added a picture and the software in the phone automatically began to compress the picture.. It wasn't me trying to do it.

This went on for about 5 minutes and wouldn't stop and I ended up having to pull the battery out to stop it...

That was a bit annoying considering mms's.. or rather, the lack of, is why I went for a new phone (old service provider didn't support blackberry and I didn't want to change providers as virgin is free virgin to virgin sms...mms and phone calls.. and allllll my family are with virgin..) Now I'm rambling...

How do I send a mms if the pics won't send due to them being so big.. ?

Sorry to be such a nag.. Hope these questions aren't overly generic..

Thank you for your help :)

PS.. I had a window come up that said.."switch to android keyboard" and I touched it and it changed my keyboard and I want to change it back to what it was as I had already learn the functionality of that on.. how do I change it to the other visual keyboard please?

On the keyboard press and long hold the key that brings up the numbers (bottom left) this will bring up the pop up window to switch keyboards)
