Root Issues with busybox install

I have a rooted incredible with an unlocked NAND. I am having troubles installing busybox. I thought I had installed it when I rooted the phone, but I guess it didnt. I have tried to push it from sdcard, I have even downloaded the busybox installer from market place. It keeps saying access denied when I push it.

I am also having problems deleting system apps. For example, using root explorer I went and deleted "footprints" from /system/apps. I deleted all three associated files, and it was successful. The problem is, when the phone gets rebooted, it is back again. And it never disappears from the installed apps list on the phone.

one more thing that has me confused.. I installed the X multitouch keyboard, and it even shows its options under keyboard.. but it is NOT installed! What is going on here?

I am a noob, so any help is much appreciated!

I can't help you with the busybox thing, but as far as the X keyboard goes:

1. Did you add it to your keyboards? Settings > Language and Keyboard > Multi-touch keyboard and then check it in the little box.

2. If so, did you open up a text box and enable it? Go to where you would type text and it will say "Type to compose". Hold your finger in that box and it will pop up and say "Input method". Select that and change it to "Multi-touch keyboard".


Those are the only two steps you would be missing if you don't see it when you try to type.

the dinc does not have an unlocked nand yet. you can only delete system apps while in recovery from a terminal until we do have nand unlocked. there are many threads on how to do this in this forum, as far as the keyboard if you installed it correctly just go to languages and keyboards in settings and make sure it is enabled. then go to any text field and long press and change input method to the one you want.

Oh and Root Explorer doesn't work on the Dinc as far as deleting files goes. The NAND isn't fully unlocked yet which means you have to modify/delete system files using the CMD prompt on your computer.

Not EVERYTHING.

You had a good point about not worrying about busybox until you download an app requiring root that makes a fuss about it or run into some other problem related to busybox.

FWIW, if you get Titanium Backup it makes you install some other version of busybox. Not sure if that would help any or not.

I guess I thought it was unlocked. I used unrevoked 2 method, and it reads unlocked on my cache cleaner..

download titanium backup from market, go into titanium backup, click problems, and click install busybox. I had the same busy box problem. I hope this helps!

It's not fully unlocked. It's unlocked enough that you can edit it through a terminal source but not straight from the device...

I finally got it installed by using this guys insructions, instead of the Mj guy's off youtube.

Now you just described my problem
I just rooted my Desire, but I *do not* want to s-off as pretty much everyone points out it is pointless. However this seems to be a great obstacle when trying to mess in /System ... Including any from-the-Android attempt to install busybox.

Seems like the s-off is not an issue in Recovery (as you mentioned) but I still don't know how to install busybox from within recovery. Could not find a ZIP that will do it, could not find script, could not send the command (correctly) using ADB ...

Could you please help on this one? How can I install that busybox?

Try the "Problems?" button in Titanium Backup. Plus you can still access system without s-off, you just can't flash unsigned zips. So unless your phone is unique, I can't see s-off being a waste. It comes in handy sometimes.
