questions regarding software update

my firmware is R1FA014. what are the real benefits to upgrade to the latest firmware? SE site does not mention the firmware version nor they talk about the new features...

will someone tell me some of the pros and cons upgrading to the current firmware.

hmmm there were a few posts that had mentioned quite alot of things but il say what i remember off the top of my head

smoother and faster interface
better battery
mediascape & timescape interface more responsive aswel as smooth
timescape themes.. i think theres around 5 to choose from
more accurate on touch response
volumes little louder and clearer

geez theres much more but i gues im useless at this lolz.. thinkin right now that ive probably forgotten even some of the basic stuff

also from your firmware its easier to root ya phone.. that has its own bonus such as backing up more data than without root, uninstalling quite alot of SE garbage, takin screenshots of ya phone without the need of pc and wires, and more!!

dont think there are any cons!! lol

thank you both for your inputs. i gather the upgrade has to be done on a pc since you have to do it using pc connection, correct? can this be done on a mac at all?

No, the upgrade can be done over the phone, you will need over 50% battery life though, simply go: Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update

that is too bad because the low volume is such a drawback for most people. i wish the x10 has stereo speakers like the nokia n95 which is nice and loud. sony can easily place speakers on either side of the phone.
