Introducing myself...and looking for some advice:)

Lurker

Hi all, my name is Bri. I'm a longtime Droid owner (and lurker lol). I actually need some advice that I couldn't find using the search.

Today I dropped my phone in my beer at a baseball game:eek:. Of course it's completely fried and won't even turn on (its rooted). So I go online to file a claim with Asurion and the Droid is backordered! They tried to say an Eris is comparible and I could get that right away but I'm not biting. So I called Asurion and the rep told me I could not be "loaned" the Eris i.e. send it back when Droids were in stock, and she also told me that it may be 3-7 days before they have them in stock. Needless to say I cannot go that long without a phone.

My question(s) is this: should I add a line with Verizon to purchase a Droid at the discounted price? If I do this, will I be able to use this Droid with my primary line? When Asurion does send me a phone, will I be able to keep it as a back up?

Thanks in advance for any help. I look forward to hopefully being able to contribute to the community more:)

This is why I always keep my old phones. You can activate any verizon phone on your line until you get your new droid. Ask your friends who are using verizon if they have an old phone you can use, or look on Craigslist (but you have to be careful here). If you get a 2nd line there will be an early termination fee if you cancel it, so you'll be stuck paying at least $10/month for that contract.

My brother's phone died (by itself, screen no longer came on). Clean it up, and take it into a Verizon Wireless Corporate store. If they have one in stock, they will swap it for you. If not, they will set up one to be shipped to you (either will be a refurb).

In my brother's case, they didn't have any in stock so that had to have it come (From Tennessee to California). She asked if we wanted next day shipping (this was a Thursday) and we said no. Much to our surprise, it came the next day anyway!

Hopefully it will work out for you... Good luck...

**EDIT** BTW, this was only a week and a half ago, after the Droid shortage had already started, yet they still got him a phone in 1 day...

If it shipped FedEx, their world HQ is either in Nashville or Knoxville, so generally anything shipping from there to almost anywhere in the United States will show up next day... Just a little useless trivia for you

Thanks all. I went to two Verizon stores, a Wireless Giant and called customer service and they weren't particularly helpful.

I was gonna try the rice trick, but I made the mistake of attempting to turn on my phone after the beer incident lol. I think we're past that point.

I found someone willing to let me have there old Blackberry Storm so I'm gonna bite the bullet and use an inferior phone while I wait for Asurion.

Has anyone else had a backorder issue with them? I read on another forum that it took over a month for someone to receive a refurbished Droid. I just might go ape shit if that happens.

The rice trick is great for WATER damage... but I suspect that evaporated beer would leave too much residue in the device. Bri, if you want to give your Droid a buzz set it to vibrate next time :p

Good Luck on your exchange!

Oh contraire monfraire...At a batchlor party, I was showing my buddy (then groom to be) my Hero and the "bubble" app. He quickly found the table to be a little off and for some very odd reason thought the top of his glass (that was sitting on the previously mentioned table) would be different, proceeded to place my phone (1 month old) on the top of his glass. Yes you see where this is going, but I would like to mention that the said "glass" is a 32oz beer mug all but 1 inch of being full of a long island ice tea...so here I sit, straight across from him, looking at his big paw trying to dig my phone out of the bottom of said drink...Upon retrieval I immediately shut it off, strtip the case, take out the battery and begin to dry it off and "slinging" the liquid out of it. When we left the resturant, went to Wal-Mart, bought a bag of rice and burried the phone. The next night, put it back to gether and still works.

Moral of the story...well, I really don't have one...

Always pull the battery first as well as any cards. For contaminants, like beer, distilled water or alcohol could possibly do the trick if the device is properly and thoroughly rinsed out.

...and of course, if the device is left for long enough to full dry out.

It all depends on the specific availability of whatever device you're talking about. I've had them ship out replacements immediately. It just depends. There's no bottomless pit of replacement Droids for them to ship out from.
