google voice sms

Is anyone elses google voice displaying in the app as Name: Name - message? it's not that big of a deal it just kind of bugs me that the name is displayed twice

The first time is how you have the name stored in your phone's contact book (or the person's phone number, if they're not in your contacts), the second time is how you have them stored in your GV contact book. This made more sense on my old phone, which wasn't a smart phone, than my new Droid which runs Android and syncs with GV. Who knows, though.

Bugs me too. Has anyone else had the problem where, if you have SMS forwarding turned on, SMS messages appear from some bizarre, unknown number and not the actual number of the person texting you?

Yes. That's Google Voice's number. It goes to/from that number and through their system, and somehow magically knows to come to you. If the other person has GV, their number will appear, but if they don't, you get the Google number (mine are all 406 numbers.)

I just save this number as the person's fax #, since I don't use that designation in my phone book for anything else... so when I open a contact and see that number, I know it's for GV texting.

Ahh, ok! Thanks!

Text the person via the Google Voice app and when they reply you will see that strange number. Just save that number to the persons contact entry and from that point on you can text that number from Messaging and it will show to them as coming from your GV number.

All my numbers were 406 area code until the other day, one showed at 518 area code for someone that used to be 406.

This is exactly what I've done since I got GV in August. Haven't had any problems with it. :)
