Quick scroll to the bottom: a bug or a feature?

I assume that I am not the only Droid's owner who has this weird experience with the device: sometimes when I touch on a list (e.g., Apps listed on Market) or a web-page. The list or page will rapidly scroll all the way to the bottom of the list or page. Although I experience this at least a couple times every day, I am unable to reproduce this phenomenon at will.

Does anyone know what cause this? Is it a bug?

I think it is a bug, as I have had this happen too, at the weirdest of times.

Once, it did not make it all the way to the bottom (in my contacts file) but every other time it has - scenarios include in the Market Downloads list, searching for apps in Market, reading email, reading SMS, and scrolling through pictures.

It almost seems as if the DROID gets caught for a second trying to perform some sort of refresh / waking up apps (because I have noticed this usually happens if I haven't been using the phone for a long time) and then misinterprets the cached screen presses I have made as one big downward swipe....

I actually have been able to recreate it doing exactly what was posted above. If you quickly tap a finger on the bottom of the screen and then the top when you are at the top of a list it'll shoot down like 80% of the time. Also if you scroll to the bottom and tap your top finger then bottom it'll scroll up. Really weird.

Neat.. I don't know about that being a bug.. Seems like a feature.. With the instructions you gave above, I was able to repeat the action pretty consistently..

This thread has been informative and helpful because i had this happen a few times and couldn't understand what was causing it.. It must have been some inadvertent quick two-finger double taps that did it.. Good to know..

wow, very cool  just played around with this some more with your method and I can see this being a great short cut to 'go to top or bottom', via the touch screen.

From what I can tell it acts like it thinks your two taps are really just a very quick swipe, at least that's how it reacts. As if the first tap is you landing your finger on the screen and the second tap is where you'd release it after a quick upward or downward swipe. At least that's how it makes sense to me so I can remember it.

It happens to me. If it is a feature I wish I could turn it off....

Check out this video /link below/..(explaining the Droids multi touch ability) ,,, at about 20 seconds the screen jumps to the bottom.. Exactly what we are talking about here.. Though this guy doesn't appear to lift his finger, or make any move out of the ordinary..

Hello all, first time caller long time listener. I've had my Droid since launch, it's my first Android device.

I don't think this is a feature, because it happens to me when I'm not touching anywhere else on the screen and just trying to view something. I think it's a bug. I hope it gets fixed in the Dec 11th patch? Wishful thinking maybe.

Love my Droid anyways! Regardless of the couple bugs I've encountered, it's an amazing device (doesn't feel right calling it a "phone" lol, it's so much more!)

Love the forums btw, they are great and informative. Thanks!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't sure if this is a feature or a bug! What happens in that video you linked is exactly what drives me bonkers sometimes. I found it'd do the same thing in some games, which surely wrecks the controls.

If it's supposed to be a feature it's a piss poor one. I can reproduce it maybe 50% of the time, the rest of the time my tap accidentally hits a button.

This actually happens a couple\few times a day and it's a bit irritating. The bug is definitely related to the phone thinking you suddenly made some massive swipe. I've done a fair amount of drag and drop coding in many applications and it can be pretty easy to have it do random jumps or hops if you don't account for something.
