I MIGHT have found my first complaint

So since I got the Droid, I have been trying my absolute hardest to find things I don't like about it. This has nothing to do with Verizon, Google, or Motorola, I just have this "anti-fanboy" attitude towards my gadgets. (Part of my anti-fanboy attitude is a direct result of Apple fanboys)

Anyway, I have had the phone since release day, and there are things I would change about the phone (i.e. the camera), but for the most part, there is nothing that REALLY needed to be changed (in my opinion).

Last night I was checking my mail (non-GMail), and I try my absolute hardest to keep my e-mail really well organized. I have an inbox folder, and then seperate folders where I store mail that I want to save (i.e. if it is work related, I move the e-mail into my "Work" folder).

So last night, I got an e-mail from my boss, and wanted to save it in my work folder. However, I cannot find a way to move e-mail into different folders. The Droid does in fact see the folders. I can go to INBOX\WORK and see everything in my Work folder, but I can not figure out a way to move e-mails currently in my inbox into that folder.

Does anyone know if this can be done?

I am not even sure if I can classify this as a critical issue, but I think its the biggest complaint I have. In other words, this phone is awesome.

No way that I have been able to find either... I also like to have a signature on my exchange email saying something about this response being while I am mobile or something to that effect, cannot do that either at this point.

I think both issues are slated for either the December or January updates that are brewing... I think anyway.

touchdown (~9.99 in the app store) will allow you to move mail, download stuff older than 30 days, push subfolders, fiddle with your out of office, always download images, and sync your tasks, sort contacts by "filed as" instead of first name (among others). until they fix the built in exchange active sync I think I'm using this. I wish it integrated into the stock cal and contacts and email database, but at the moment its worth the hassle to me.

I hate the way google uses labels vs a true folder structure. It's part of their anti microsoft/outlook strategy.

HTC Hero, Iphone and Palm pre do what outlook does and allows you to drop into normal folder structure that properly converts to labels in outlook.

Droids unified inbox looks exactly like HTC's except HTCs will allow you to move to a folder. The BAD thing is the list is of labels, not a folder structure so depending on your number of folders and subfolders you could have a huge list to inefficiently scroll down to file the email vs a quick drill down to a subfolder.

Other thing that also sucks balls is how HTC's unified inbox let you save attachments to storage card whereas the droid only allows you to view. Therefore if you are on a job site and need to view a document sent to you you better hope you have data signal. More points on how these engineers must make these things from ratholes and forget to actually let real business users test these things for basic functionality..

This is also driving me crazy. I have e-mail that is in the trash, and I am unable to move it back to the Inbox? How is it possible that you can not move mail between folders? Am I missing something?

You are referring to the GMail app. That works fine. Its the unified email box that doesn't allow you to move mail to folders.

Yeah, but folders are just much more efficient. I have 3 or 4 main folders with many many sub folders if I need to get to a business subfolder it takes a second with labels it can take up to a minute or so to scroll the ALL the labels to select the one to move the email to.

K9 mail helps a lot because when you scroll it pulls up the coarse slider, which is not avail on hero, eris, doid's unified or gmail apps. K9 also allows you to save any attachemtn right from the email. Only bad thing is K9's inbox view sort of sucks, no multiple select and text too small and no variation.

So I use gmail app for normal use and jump into K9 for sorting and saving attachments for now.

same here...

on my LG Dare I was able to move emails to different folders within my email...same thing with my BB Storm...but so far I can't find any functions on the Motorola Droid that allow me to move emails to other folders...which sucks...cause I'm constantly checking emails...

This only works in the gmail app. It doesn't work in the "everything but gmail app".

I can see the folders, I can go into them, but I can't move e-mails.

I am in the same boat.

I set up my Gmail account to get my pop/imap mail which works just as well as any other mail client. If you are trying to do exchange, I got nothing for you. The best idea I have about that is for you to bribe the exchange server administrator to let you get your exchange mail via pop or imap.
The server at my job does that. My problem is they don't let unauthorized machines get mail from them. That is just fine, I am not so desperate to get email from my job anyway.
