Root Superuser 2.1 or older

So, I'm using JRummy 6.0.11 now, but this has been happening for a long time, and it's just really starting to bug me that there are so many issues with Superuser 2.2.2, from controlling cpu speed with SetCPU to using LED Hacks for use with the dock. I've been trying to find a link to an older version, like 2.1, and have combed through multiple forums to find it as well with no luck. The only one I can find is from a link on droidforums.net to the mediafire link below. I've tried it many times and my phone doesn't like it. It's supposed to be an update.zip format. When I go into SPRecovery, I allow update.zip, then go to install it, it goes through the standard procedure, finds it, opens it, verifies it, begins installing it, then aborts installation. The weird thing is that it aborts right away with the progress bar barely moved, but after it has aborted, the progress bar continues to go to about 20% then stops. I've let it sit there for almost a half hour and it doesn't go any farther.

I'm really hoping that someone can point me to a version that doesn't abort installation on me so I can have a Superuser that doesn't have any issues. Thank you for your help and for any links you may have. Sorry for the long-windedness but I just wanted to explain what was happening so either someone knows what I'm doing wrong with the link I provided or doesn't try to give me that same link. Thanks.

Superuser/Root Problems with RC1 - CyanogenMod Forum

^^ Has a link to 2.0.3 in it (2.1 is the same one you linked). It also has instructions on adding either to your ROM zip so you can try reflashing the whole thing at once.

[Edit:] FWIW, I was able to successfullly flash the 2.1 from clockwork recovery. Have you tried re-downloading it? Possibly the download was corrupt. Or maybe just try flashing clockwork recovery to install it, and you can flash back to sprecovery after.

Please forgive my ignorance, and thank you for the advice on how to proceed, but how would I go about flashing clockwork recovery, flash SU 2.1, and then flash back to sprecovery? I have been trying to learn as much as I can, but clockwork and the different recovery programs have been one area I have stayed away from. I know how to use sprecovery to do what I need to and I was uneasy about changing. Then there were all the people talking about problems that they had with clockwork and having to flash between recoveries multiple times; that really turned me off from it. But it sounds like I need to use it to change the superuser so I am willing to learn if you are willing to teach!! Thank you for your help!!

Nick

you dont need clockwork to change your superuser to 2.1.

This zip is Superuser 2.1 and will work with SPR
update.zip

That being said I dont think you should be scared of trying clockwork. Its a better recovery. There are cases when after flashing a new recovery you cant get into recovery but all you have to do is reflash a few times. Its an easy fix. The problem can also happen when flashing SPR.

Awesome, thank you very much for the link for the SU 2.1 it updated beautifully, and it appears that it will fix the issues that I was having.

As far as clockwork goes, I'll have to look into it. How would I go about flashing a the new clockwork recovery? Is it a update.zip type of format? Or something completely different? How does the reflashing get handled if I do end up having problems? If there are threads around that I should be reading, I'll look for those then and read up on it. And I wasn't aware that could happen with sprecovery as well, I'm glad it hasn't happened to me, I would've been on here begging for answers from all of you more knowledgeable folks again. Thanks again for the help everyone!!

Well since you have never changed recoveries it couldnt have happened to you. Easiest way to flash recoveries is rom manager. It does the work for you.
