Root Rom designer deleted my favorites. How can I back them up?

Well a new version of my favorite ROM came out and I installed it. Sadly the designer deleted my walpaper in the last update and in this one he deleted my ring tone and notification tones.

How can I back up these choices and add them to the newest version of the ROM? The new version is much quicker and I want to use it but only with those tones.

wallpapers are found in the launcher apk file. The actual name of the launcher depends on which ones he included (stock are launcher.apk or launcher2.apk) You can pull the .apk and rename it to a .zip file to explore the contents of it. (terminal or root explorer on phone, or use adb) If you are unsure how to do these things, you can search for it on several android forums.

You should be able to find the ringtones and notifications in the .zip of the previous rom if you still have it. just look for the media directory.

Found it using Astro File manager. But am not certain how to get it to copy the file nor where to past it to be safe from the install of the new ROM. Then there is the issue on how to paste it to the proper folder after the new ROM is installed.

I tried hooking the phone up to my computer but could not find the files Windows XP doesn't see them, or any files in those folders.

You should just be able to copy it to your SD card, anywhere really. I have a folder on mine called "wallpapers" that contains all my wallpapers that I have collected from various themes and ROMs using the method that was described.

To be able to see the files on your PC you will need an archive program like Winzip, WinRAR, or 7zip. You will actually have to move the file onto your pc and use one of the archive programs to open it to actually see the files inside.

Are you talking about the .apk? Copy it from wherever to your sdcard and rename it to a .zip file and you can extract it on your phone.

I think if you are using Astro, you can only browse the zip file, but can't do anything with the contents without extracting them first. You should be able to copy/paste by long-pressing on the file to get a popup menu.

I'd recommend keeping the files you like on your sdcard in the directories mentioned above so you don't have to go through this process everytime you flash a new ROM.

Copied every media file to the /media file on the sd-card. Reloading the update of the ROM as we speak Hope to find the tones when it gets back up

It took a couple of seconds for the Droid System to find the new files. But that is OK. It found them and I am HAPPY AGAIN!

The files are safely in the /media file of the SD card!
